WHERE ARE THEY NOW: We are excited to introduce another Huntley 158 alum! If you are a Huntley 158 alum, we want to hear from you! Visit our website to join our network, share your story or even nominate someone you know for our new Alumni Hall of Fame! https://www.huntley158.org/community/alumni

WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Meet Sydney Plante from the Class of 2019!

Plante earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she focused her studies on economics, political science, and political philosophy. She has a robust background in government operations, policy development, and strategic communications.

Prior to joining MARAD, she served in the regional office of the U.S. Secretary of Transportation with Sean Duffy during his tenure in Congress. In this capacity, she spearheaded regional policy initiatives and managed critical constituent relations.

Complementing her public sector leadership, Plante draws on over three years of experience as a paralegal, giving her a sophisticated understanding of administrative law, regulatory frameworks, and complex case management.

She notes that Huntley High School provided many opportunities for learning and helping to prepare her for her career, such as AP classes, mock trial, and various after school activities.

Plante’s advice to current students is to join clubs and take electives to determine what they enjoy, as this can lead to a future path to a fulfilling career.

Yesterday, 20 K-8 instructional leaders, educators and related services staff gathered at the district office to learn about LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) from representatives with the Specific Learning Disability (SLD) Project. LETRS is grounded in the Science of Reading and is designed to strengthen literacy instruction for all learners, especially those with specialized needs in reading.

This training builds the knowledge and tools needed to:

- Support students with reading disabilities, including dyslexia
- Deliver targeted, evidence-based instruction that supports delivery of Specially Designed Instruction
- Strengthen IEP development and implementation

LETRS helps educators understand how students learn to read and how to apply research-based, evidence-based practices in the classroom. It focuses on key areas like phonics, language development, comprehension, and intervention for struggling readers.
