Artistic Director Sandhya Radhakrishnan has specialized in teaching both Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam for the past 30 years.

We participate in competitions and cultural programs put on by various organizations.

This past fall, Bharathanjali School of Dance celebrated our first Annual Day. Our students of all levels took the stage, and our senior dancers were joined by Guru Sandhya Radhakrishnan for a special presentation.
A special thank you to our students, families, and well-wishers for making this inaugural event a success.

Last weekend some of our students had the great opportunity to compete in the Chicago Malayali Association's Kalamela competition. The following prizes were awarded in their respective categories:

Junior solo:

Sloka K. Nambiar won 1st in Mohiniattam and 3rd in Bharathanatyam and achieved the Kalamela Rising Star award along with many other awards in different categories such as cinematic dance and elocution.

Folk subjunior group dance:

1st: Veda, Alyssa, Alina, Ahana, and Amelia

2nd: Ashiya, Aditi, Akshara, Nainika, Parvana, and Olivia

3rd: Dwani, Abigail, Mayuka, Eleanor, and Avantika

Juniors Bharathanatyam group dance:

2nd: Sloka, Joanne, Gayathri, and Arya

On August 10, 2024, the Bharathanatyam and Mohiniyattam Arangetram of Rashi Ravi.

This was Bharathanjali School's very first joint Bharathanatyam and Mohiniyattam debut by a student.

Rashi began her Bharathanatyam training with Guru Sandhya Radhakrishnan at age 5, and in the years since, we have watched her excel in all forms of dance from Mohiniyattam to Bollywood to Jazz to Hip Hop. It is an absolute privilege to have such a multi-talented dancer in our midst.

In Guru Sandhya's words "I have had the honor of watching Rashi grow and perfect her instincts when it comes to thaalam and abhinaya in both Mohiniyattam and Bharathanatyam, she is a wonderful dancer and performer, she truly comes alive on stage"

Special thanks to Rashi's dedicated parents, grandparents, and sister, as well as everyone who came to support Rashi.

July 20, 2024 the Arangetram of Eesha Peddhapati.

Eesha started learning dance with Guru Sandhya Radhakrishnan at the age of five. In the words of Guru Sandhya:
"She has always been a quiet, soft spoken, obedient, and cooperative girl. Even though she is quiet, she has willpower and determination that I see strongly in her eyes. As part of her training, I had to be very strict with her, and when she was young, she would cry most classes, which, at the time, made me question whether she would continue dance lessons or not. But thanks to Letha, her mom, she made sure Eesha attended every single class and practiced at home.

I can’t believe the years passed as quickly as they have, I got to watch Eesha grow into a beautiful and exceptional young woman. She is enthusiastic, hard- working, more than willing to accept corrections, and incredibly keen on improving. It is a privilege to have her as my student."

August 5, 2023 We had the honor of celebrating the Bharathanatyam Arrengatram of Shreya Sivakumar. Shreya has also been learning Bharathanatyam from Guru Sandhya Radhakrishnan since she was a little girl. She has always been and continues to be a sweet, bright, and eager dancer in every aspect. Special thanks to Shreya's dedicated parents and family, as well as everyone who came to support her.

July 15, 2023 We had the honor of celebrating the Bharathanatyam Arrengatram of Pallavi Rao. Pallavi has been learning Bharathanatyam from Guru Sandhya Radhakrishnan since she was a little girl. She has always displayed a strong sense of determination to practice along with a passion for perfection, making her an ideal student. Special thanks to Pallavi's dedicated parents and family, as well as everyone who came to support Pallavi.

August 13, 2022 We celebrated the longawaited Bharathanatyam Arrengatram of Vinaya Pillai, Sapna Nattuvetty, and Nandana Devarajan. These three girls have all been under Guru Sandhya Radhakrishnan's tutelage since as early as the age of 5 as a result Guru Sandhya worked tirelessly to ensure the choreography both challenged and showcased the dancers. This Arrengatram was postponed for two years due to Covid yet these girls were determined to learn and perfect every element of their performance. Vinaya, Sapna, and Nandana grew up dancing for Bharathanjali and we have all watched them grow into the graceful and talented dancers you see today. We are so proud of how far they have come and cannot wait to see what their futures hold.

We were also blessed to have been accompanied by such talented musicians. Thank you each for your illustrious performance.
