Last spring, students were inspired by the novel A Long Walk to Water and decided to work together with Denmark's Viking Academy to raise funds to support a clean-water well project through Strides For Africa.

Thanks to the generosity of our communities and the hard work of these students, more than 2,000 students in Kigali, Rwanda, now have access to clean, reliable water.

We are so grateful to everyone who supported this effort and helped transform a school project into a life-changing opportunity for students across the world.

Thank you to Denmark Viking Academy & Algoma Charter School for supporting Strides for Africa’s Global Students Program! 💙

Your partnership helped bring safe, reliable water access to over 2,000 students at GS Ste Famille in Rwanda. Together, we are helping create healthier learning environments where students can focus on their education and future opportunities.

Throughout his time at AVA, Hunter has built meaningful friendships and worked to be a positive presence for those around him. His passion for wildlife and the outdoors has been evident in much of his work, including projects such as his wildlife tracking guide and archery project, which showcased both his interest in conservation and his ability to apply learning in meaningful, hands-on ways. One of his favorite high school memories was participating in the Shivering Sands hike, an experience that reflects his appreciation for exploration, challenge, and learning beyond the classroom.

Outside of his projects, Hunter is an avid reader, and it is not uncommon to find him with his head buried in a book during downtime. His love of reading reflects a genuine curiosity and a passion for exploring new ideas, perspectives, and stories.

Hunter credits Mrs. Lemberger as the teacher who had the greatest impact on him, and he is especially grateful for the support of his friends throughout his journey. One of the most important lessons he says he learned in high school is the value of personal finance and the importance of staying on top of responsibilities—skills he will carry with him well beyond graduation.

Hunter plans to join the military after graduation and later continue his education at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point, where he intends to work toward his long-term goal of becoming a game warden. His path reflects a commitment to serving both his country and his community. We are proud of Hunter’s growth, character, and determination, and we look forward to seeing all he accomplishes in the future. Congratulations, Hunter!
