Career Fair Week isn’t just about handing out résumés. It’s about learning.

Now that you’ve had a chance to meet employers, take a few minutes to reflect.

Ask yourself:
🔹 Which companies interested me the most?
🔹 What careers or opportunities did I learn about?
🔹 What questions did employers ask me?
🔹 What skills did employers say they’re looking for?
🔹 What did I learn about myself?
🔹 Who do I need to follow up with?
🔹 What can I do differently at the next Career Fair?

🌟Maybe you discovered your dream company.

🌟Maybe you found a career path you hadn’t considered.

🌟Maybe you realized your résumé needs some work.

All of those are wins.

📬 1 Day After: “Don’t Let the Conversation End”
The Career Fair may be over, but your work isn’t!

You had conversations with employers yesterday. Now it’s time to follow up.

A good follow-up can help turn a quick Career Fair conversation into a professional connection.

What should you do?
✅ Send a thank-you message
✅ Mention something specific you discussed
✅ Remind them of your interest
✅ Connect on LinkedIn when appropriate
✅ Follow any application or next-step instructions they gave you

💬 Keep it simple:
“Thank you for taking the time to speak with me at the Alfred State Career Fair yesterday. I enjoyed learning more about [company/opportunity] and our conversation about [specific topic]. I’m very interested in the opportunity and look forward to staying in touch.”

⏰ Don’t wait weeks to follow up. Reach out while the conversation is still fresh.

🚨 TODAY IS THE DAY! 🚨

The Fall Career Fair is here! 🎉

Feeling nervous? That’s completely normal. Here’s how to work the Career Fair like a pro:

1️⃣ Walk in with a plan.
Know which employers you want to visit first, but leave room for unexpected opportunities.

2️⃣ Introduce yourself.
Try: “Hi, my name is ___. I’m a ___ major at Alfred State, and I’m interested in ___.”

3️⃣ Ask questions.
Try asking:
💬 “What opportunities do you have for students in my field?”
💬 “What skills are you looking for?”
💬 “What does a typical day look like in this role?”

4️⃣ Listen!
A Career Fair isn’t just about handing out résumés. Pay attention to what recruiters tell you.

5️⃣ Take notes.
After each conversation, write down the recruiter’s name and something you discussed.
6️⃣ Keep moving.
Talk to multiple employers. You never know which conversation could lead to your next opportunity.

🤝 Your goal today isn’t to get a job on the spot. It’s to start conversations and build connections.

👔 1 Day to Go: “What Are You Wearing?”
Tomorrow is the Fall Career Fair!

One question we hear a lot: “What should I wear?”

The goal is simple: professional, polished, and comfortable.

Think:
🧥 Professional suit or business attire when appropriate
👔 Button-down shirt, blouse, sweater, or professional top
👖 Dress pants, skirt, or other professional bottoms
👞 Clean, professional shoes
👜 A professional bag or portfolio for your résumé

Before tomorrow, make sure your outfit is clean, neat, and ready to go.

Your Tuesday night checklist:
☑️ Résumés printed
☑️ Outfit ready
☑️ Employer list reviewed
☑️ Introduction practiced
☑️ Questions prepared
☑️ Career Fair location/time confirmed

💡 One more tip: Don’t stress about being perfect. Employers are there because they WANT to meet students.

You walk up to an employer.
You introduce yourself.
Then comes the awkward part:

“So…what do I ask?”

Come prepared with questions!

Try:
💬 “What skills do you look for in candidates?”
💬 “What internship opportunities do you offer?”
💬 “What does a typical day look like in this position?”
💬 “What makes someone successful at your company?”
💬 “What advice would you give a student interested in this industry?”
💬 “What opportunities might be available to someone at my level?”

And here's a tip:

Think career fairs are only for seniors?

They're not.

In fact, attending as a freshman can give you an advantage.

Here's why:
🌟 Explore early: Learn about industries and careers before you have to choose your path.

🤝 Start networking: Begin meeting employers years before you need a job.

🧠 Learn what employers want: Use what you learn to choose classes, experiences, clubs, and skills that will strengthen your résumé.

🗣️ Practice makes progress: The more you talk with professionals, the more comfortable you'll become.

📈 Think ahead: Learn what internships, co-ops, and experiences you can work toward during your time at Alfred State.

You don't have to be looking for a job to benefit from a career fair.

Try this:
Your name + what you're studying + something you're interested in + what you'd like to learn or find.

You don't need a perfect speech. You just need a starting point.

🎯 Your challenge: Practice your introduction out loud until it feels natural.

What you wear to a career fair matters.

You are meeting employers who could become your future internship supervisors, co-workers, or hiring managers. Make your first impression a professional one.

GO FOR:
✔️ Dress pants, slacks, skirts, or a professional dress
✔️ Button-down shirts, blouses, sweaters, or professional tops
✔️ Clean, professional shoes
✔️ Clean, neat, pressed clothing
✔️ A polished, professional appearance

SKIP:
🚫 Sweatpants or athletic pants
🚫 Hoodies and casual T-shirts
🚫 Pajamas
🚫 Ripped or distressed clothing
🚫 Flip-flops or slippers
🚫 Baseball caps and casual hats
🚫 Clothing with inappropriate graphics or slogans
🚫 Dirty, wrinkled, or overly revealing clothing
