💜

Nestled in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, we are home to about 50 horses that serve both our nationally ranked Varsity Teams and our 4 unique academic programs! Thanks to the generosity of Alfred University Trustee Rob Daggett '81, Catherine Bromeley Daggett '58, and Peter '67 and Maris Cuneo, AU has a state-of-the-art equestrian facility that opened in August 2005. Thanks to a generous

donation from Maris Cuneo, a new 60' x 120' pole barn (clear span) with an overhang for equipment storage has been added to the facility. The barn is being used primarily for hay storage and the rest of the space will be available to set up stalls to use for quarantine or for horse shows. Equine-courses, our Varsity IHSA (hunt seat and western) and IDA Teams, student boarding, clinics and horse shows are all offered. The spacious facility located on 400 acres is within a five-minute drive of campus. Although transportation is not provided by the University, students have no problem arranging for rides. Our Equestrian Center has:
- Offices and classrooms
- 2 indoor Viewing areas
- 200 x 80-foot indoor area with wall mirrors and sand footing
- 240 X 120-foot outdoor lighted arena with large seating area and stone dust footing
- 52 stalls accommodate more than 40 university-owned horses and student boarded horses
- 28 electric camper hookups available for trailer parking
- 40 acres of turnout fields

☀️ Equestrian Summer Update ☀️

Sophomore Chase Reinbold is working towards a degree in Sports and Health Sciences while also riding for our Western Team. He shares what he has been up to over break:

“This summer, I had the opportunity to work at the Bromeley-Daggett Equestrian Center and take a family trip to southern Utah. At the Equestrian Center, I helped take care of Alfred University’s horses and got to know each one very well. I was also able to help haul six of my family’s horses to Bryce Canyon National Park and Dixie National Forest in Utah, where we rode on many scenic trails. These experiences, along with being an athlete and rider my entire life, have reinforced my ambition to pursue a career as an athletic trainer working with rodeo athletes.”

Thank you for the update, Chase! We are excited to see all that you’ve learned from these opportunities. 💜

☀️ Equestrian Summer Update ☀️

Sophomore Ebony Subacsz has been working as a camp counselor for Hidden Lake Farm Riding School Inc. (Southold, NY) under the guidance of trainer Jackie Bittener! Ebony is responsible creating and leading activities, such as balancing on poles, jumping competitions, and water games like limbo or balloon toss. She also works alongside many of the younger beginner riding students kids as they ride to ensure they are having a great experience. Working for a trainer and learning the ins and outs of the their business is expanding on Ebony’s major in Equine Business Management!

When asked about her experience, Ebony says:

“I love it! I’ve been working at camps for 3 years now, and it’s something id like to add to what I do in the future as Id like to become a riding instructor/trainer!”

When not working, Ebony has been keeping up with her riding at Fox View Equestrian and working with a palomino mare, Alice!

Thank you for the update, Ebony! We are excited to see all that you’ve learned from these opportunities. 💜
