Our next program spotlight in our series is Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions (RMUoHP)! RMU offers a hybrid format, with specialty practice areas in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling. The Rocky Mountain University Counseling Program is built upon the effective training techniques of the past to help students develop the competence and confidence to be effective counselors. The program uses a 4-Step approach to counselor education.
1. Using electronic connections, faculty help students access all the experts of the past in a structured way through asynchronous learning.
2. Through synchronous online experiences with knowledgeable faculty, students organize that knowledge and begin the process of assimilating and structuring it so that it can be applied.
3. Bring students on campus for face-to-face learning and synthesizing and verifying the ability to connect well with others and effectively develop and apply counseling skills.
4. Students are placed in high-quality learning practicum and internship sites, with trained supervisors to allow them the opportunity to apply what they have learned, establish effective relationships with clients, demonstrate dispositions consistent with the profession, and gain the confidence necessary to be a professional counselor.

This week's program spotlight is Central Michigan University! The CMU Counseling Program offers three concentrations in Addiction, Clinical Mental Health, and School Counseling. Becoming CACREP accredited in 2021 led to significant enrollment growth in their program. In Fall 2022, CMU launched a part-time online only program, with a full-time program following in Fall 2023. They also maintain a hybrid program based in their main campus in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Now that they offer accredited programs, they have begun to focus on the student experience and building community within the entire program. CMU also has a renewed focus on alumni engagement strategies. For example, they recently held a program Hooding Ceremony for current graduates coupled with a 65th Alumni Celebration. Several hundred guests came to campus for this special event and feedback offered praise for the outreach. CMU believes this event helped to solidify relationships with alumni and recent graduates, in the hopes of securing their collaboration and support moving forward. A few other points of pride for CMU include: a dedicated Practicum and Internship Coordinator, faculty as academic advisors, an active and productive CSI chapter that supports program initiatives, and the program is also an Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP) which has helped to bolster robust professional development opportunities. They have also recently launched a Postgraduate School Counseling Certificate (not accredited) to assist with a significant School Counselor Shortage in the state of Michigan. There is a 40 year history of creative and expressive work in App State’s department that they work hard to maintain through partnerships with faculty in music therapy and social work and with local practitioners. Concurrent with their degree program, students are able to complete a 15 credit hour graduate certificate in Expressive Arts Therapy that positions them to pursue the Registered Expressive Arts Therapist (REAT) credential. The department’s student expressive arts club, Orchesis, hosts expressive arts events and workshops throughout the year. They have a rotating expressive arts gallery that is displayed in our building, coordinated by Orchesis, and it is not uncommon to hear drumming coming from their expressive arts classes.
