We want to congratulate Mrs. Karen Watkins on her retirement! She came to our CENLA Campus family a few years ago and fell right in with our team. No matter how wild or busy our days are- she always has a smile on her face and is available to help in any way possible. She has truly been a blessing to each of our faculty as well as our students. We are so thankful to call her our colleague and friend; and wish her the very best as she enjoys some rest and relaxation time with her friends and family! 💜 HAPPY RETIREMENT!!!

We all know nursing school is tough and sometimes students may need someone to bounce off ideas or review content with. We are currently looking for a CENLA Campus Nursing Student Tutor! Training and specifics will be provided for all tutors. Tutors may work 10 hours per week; $15 per hour. If interested, reach out to Ms. Alicia Book at [email protected] 💜

Our 3rd level ASN students have enjoyed their maternal-newborn and women’s health rotations at Rapides Regional Women and Children’s Hospital. They are able to provide care to women throughout their pregnancy and delivery, and those experiencing women’s health care needs. They also spend time caring with the newborns in the nursery as well as newborn ICU.

Thank you to the team of nurses and providers at Rapides Regional for allowing our students this opportunity! 💜

Simulation experiences are always one of the most fun learning opportunities for students. Educators from Christus Cabrini collaborate with NSU faculty to design a simulation scenario that brings together content learned in a course with a patient experience that could occur in clinical rotations. The simulation educators also pull evidence-based research to expose students to potential errors or challenges that occur in everyday nursing so that students are prepared to critically think and care for patients no matter what may come their way. Afterwards, students and educators reflect on the experience and debrief on strengths and areas for opportunity to improve. Students leave with enhanced confidence in their skills and abilities, as well as areas they can work to become an even stronger nurse! 💜

Thank you to Christus Cabrini Hospital for allowing our students to learn and grow in your simulation lab with your educators!

These 4th level BSN students are ready for a great semester of Complex Care and Psych-Mental Health!

This summer they will pull together all they have learned to care for the most complex or critical patients in our local ERs, ICUs, Dialysis Units, and other critical care units.

These students will also rotate through the inpatient and outpatient Psych-Mental Health settings while learning to care for patients with needs related to their mental health.

Congratulations to our students for reaching this point and we cannot wait to see you graduate in December 💜

Several of our CENLA students spent the weekend at the Six Feet Above Mental Health and Wellness Festival in CENLA teaching the community about mental health awareness and resources available for themselves or their loved ones! 💜

Mental health is a necessity for everyone and early recognition of issues and reaching out to resources for guidance and assistance is crucial to save lives! We are proud of our students for their commitment to the health and wellness of our community! You represent NSU and NSU CENLA well!

Our 5th Level BSN students love the opportunity this semester to see new aspects of the nursing role!

In one of their clinical rotations, they work closely with a preceptor on the hospital unit to focus on teamwork, collaboration, leadership roles, and functioning with the interdisciplinary team to provide care for a team of patients.

In another clinical rotation, students will explore outpatient and community health nursing roles. While many clinical rotations are centered around the patient admitted to the hospital facility, this rotation allows students to see what happens to patients after discharge and learn what resources are available to patients. 💜

See one, do one, teach one! 💜

Our students take turns working through dosage-calculation problems with peers demonstrating various methods of solving complex calculations!

Active learning provides students with stronger opportunities to learn while being challenged in a safe learning environment with peers and faculty present to support them! 💜

We kicked off our SUMMER semester a little differently! We hosted our first Professional Development Day for our nursing students in collaboration with some of our community partners!

Thank you to Christus Cabrini Hospital for opening our morning with a presentation from nurses- “What I Wish I Would Have Known As a New Nurse” followed by a presentation- “Success in Creating Your Resume and Interviewing for Your Nursing Job”. The team also provided delicious breakfast items and some sweets to keep the energy up!

The team from Rapides Regional Medical Center came at lunchtime and provided a delicious lunch from Chick-Fil-A and two great presentations- “What I Want My Nurse to Know: Sharing a Patient’s Point of View” and “What Nurses Need to Know to above from Student to Practicing RN”.

To close out our day, the team from Central Management came to discuss career opportunities outside of traditional hospital bedside nursing and a great presentation- “Common Challenges Experienced by New Graduates Entering the Healthcare Setting”.

We are so incredibly thankful for the support we receive from our community partners as we work to provide the best learning experience for our CENLA students! 💜
