Be Moved, a film by award-winning filmmaker, Jane Pittman, tells the story of the Choreographers Collaboration Project (CCP), a modern dance company based in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, from its beginnings in 1999 to now. The film brings together perspectives of company members, community members, students, and artistic collaborators and focuses on the impact of CCP on the individuals and the communities within Alexandria. This is a story not just about dance, but the much broader narrative about the arts, specifically how a small local dance company can strengthen, build, and create a community that can last a lifetime.

The film includes videos clips of CCP performances since 1999 and interviews with CCP members, students, and collaborators.
The film is a celebration of the commitment of all who have supported CCP.

Choreographers Collaboration Project is excited to announce "Be Moved" will be presented at the Alexandria Film Festival November 11 at 12 noon as part of "Nostalgia", a showing of five films.

Be Moved, a film by award-winning filmmaker Jane Pittman, tells the story of the Choreographers Collaboration Project (CCP), a modern dance company based in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, from its beginnings in 1999 to now. The film brings together perspectives of company members, community members, students, and artistic collaborators and focuses on the impact of CCP on the individuals and the communities within Alexandria. Mary Jo Smet has taken CCP's digital efforts further than we imagined when we started our digital dance series over a year ago. She developed the dance concept, choreographed the dance phrases, edited the videos, and has created a dance that is truly reflective of the past year.

Spring2ACTion 2021

Spring2ACTion's annual giving day is April 28.

For the past 22 years, CCP has been a vital part of the Alexandria community. During this past year, in order to continue our work, we moved our in-person classes and rehearsals to the safety of the outdoors and the virtual world, and taught free classes for teens and adults. We continued to choreograph and created three new virtual pieces shared on our social media platforms and performed our first livestream concert outdoors at the Mt. Vernon Rec Center in October 2020.
This year we are embarking on a Legacy Project - creating a film that looks back at how we have impacted our community by serving as a lab for emerging choreographers, building collaborations with other artists, and expanding our audiences across communities and generations.

The film will include videos from past performances and premieres of two new dances. We plan to share this film in early 2022 in an online platform that allows all who have supported and been a part of CCP to participate.

CCP is proud to present the third in our series of Zoom dances - "ALIEN INVASION".

In Spring 2020, CCP was poised to perform a five-part science fiction themed dance, but our rehearsals and performance had to be canceled for everyone's health and safety. DATES: Saturdays, September 19 - December 12

TIME: 9:45am -10:45am

WHAT: Modern dance/improvisation class

WHO: Youth and teens 10 - 18 years old.

WHERE: The class will be held outside of the Mt. Vernon Rec Center, 2701 Commonwealth Ave. In case of inclement weather, class will be held via Zoom.

Masks are required and proper social distancing will be maintained during class. CCP will follow Virginia, city of Alexandria and Alexandria Health Department guidance and update accordingly.

CCP SPRING UPDATES!

CCP's Spring Session and Concert

Because of COVID-19, CCP's spring session of the Saturday 9am Community dance class and CCP's April 25th Spring Concert have been cancelled.

We will send out an announcement when we are able to resume classes and reschedule our concert. This is first time in 21 years that we have had to cancel classes or a concert, and we are heart-broken by it but we understand that these are unprecedented times.

Spring2ACTion's annual giving day is April 15, with the early giving period starting on April 3.

Because of the extraordinary situation our community is in due to COVID-19, CCP is approaching Spring2ACTion 2020 differently than in past years.

We recognize that our community is facing critical health and welfare needs, and we encourage you to first consider donating to organizations that support these critical needs. Therefore, we have not set a donation goal or levels of donation for this year.

At the same time, we believe in the power of the arts, particularly dance, to strengthen and heal a community, and we would welcome any donations to support the continuation of CCP programs as we recover from this crisis.

We thank you for your strong support over the years and we can't wait to bring the CCP community back together through our classes, workshops, and performances.
