NARTâs victorious in Session 1!! đ
We finished up our projects, pick our pieces for the Art Show August 15, collected our star rewards, then headed outside for awards and group comp. NARTs won the sponge relay and the Graffiti Gremlins won the Fire Bucket relay!! Everybody got wet and anyone who didnât got soaked in our epic balloon war. We had a blast with our session 1 campers. Also a huge thank you to our outstanding summer staff and to our amazing instructors Carrie, Dusty, Michael and Fernando.
Canât wait for session 2 on Monday!!
SAS26 is rolling full steam ahead đ

Wow, what a busy day!!! High Fires learned how to use the potter wheel in Mr Michaelâs class, a favorite part of our ceramics class. All our campers worked on finishing up thier projects in class while the events committee under the guidance of Mrs Amy prepared for our afternoon bonus event. We love a good themed event, thank of it as a training scenario for Van Gogh Galaâs. This sessions theme was the Industrial Steampunk Revolution. With a so many amazing costumes today it was hard for group leaders to choose a best dress. The group challenges today had victories by the High Fires in the hoop toss and the NARTS won the book balancing comp after a tie breaker.
One more day left in session 1 and we will finish up Friday with an epic balloon war.

Sun was shining today, creativity was flowing and Red River Bankâs Ice Creams Truck visited us ďżźđ¤¤
We got our pots glazed in Mr Michaelâs ceramics class and ready to get thier glaze firing. We canât wait to see how they look when they come out the kiln. Mrs Carrie had them working on stars and portraits and Mr Dustyâs class start adding paint to thier mix media instrument pieces.
In other news, the High Fires dominated the group comp and our last cheer comp. They are only 3 points behind the Gremlins who have 25points and the NARTâs are still in the lead with 28. The last time the NARTâs were summer champions was in 2023.
Canât wait to see what everyone is wearing tomorrow for our first Themed Thursday of SAS26, The Industrial Steam Punk Revolution.
Due to the potential for flooding and previous roadway closures affecting access to downtown, we want to provide an early heads-up about possible transportation challenges in the coming days for campers traveling to River Oaks Square Arts Center. We are monitoring conditions closely and will keep families informed if any issues arise that could impact access to the facility.

Tie-dye Tuedsay!!! Rainy days are perfect for creating in the studios of River Oaks. Campers worked on their patriotic portraits ďżźwit Mrs Carrie. Learned how to use a drill while working in Mr. Dustyâs class and added patterns to their names in Mr Michaelâs class. The cooler weather from the rain is nice but playing it safe we had a very rambunctious beanbag studio group competition in our main gallery with the NARTs winning đ. There was a tie-breaker needed to decide second place with the Graffiti Gremlins coming out on top.ďżź

Week two started off full throttle! Powering through the rain outside we spent all day in the studios working g on our projects and had a very intense cup stacking competition! NARTâs still hold the lead with the Gremlins gaining ground, now only down by three.
This week we welcome guest arts instructor, Dusty Reed AKA The Cajun Picasso, to SAS. He has an awesome project with found objects out campers will be working on in his class.

& THATS A WRAP!!! FIRST WEEK DONE!! The campers had a huge limbo competition today resulting in a three way tie between the gremlins highfires and narts!
Today we say goodbye to an awesome component of this week! Fernando Rivera has been sent by NOCCA to come teach acting classes to campers. New Orleans Center for Creative Arts is a public, pre-professional arts training center that offers students instruction in culinary arts, dance, media arts: filmmaking & audio production, music, theatre arts (drama, musical theatre, theatre design), visual arts, and creative writing, while demanding academic excellence. Huge thanks to them for sending us such an awesome instructor this week!
Until Monday, PEACE OUT!!đâď¸

HAPPY THROWBACK THURSDAY! today the campers did all sorts of activities such as stacking pizza boxes. Who knew eating pizza would be useful in a challenge?đ¤guess that gives us an excuse to eat more!
they also made American flags to finish up their Statue of Liberty project. I think Lady Liberty would be extremely proud of some of these campers skills!
HIGHFIRES WON THE CHALLENGE TODAY!!! do you think they can rank up enough points to take the lead??? Iâm personally rooting for them. See ya tomorrow for FRIDAY!đ
