Hey Linguistics Club! The Co-Presidents for the 2023-2024 school year will be William Zhang and Darren Kao! Thank you to everyone who applied for the Co-President position. We appreciate the time and effort you put into your speeches.

If you are interested in taking the National Computational Linguistics Open (NACLO), we are offering it in school this year! Register at nacloweb.org/register_student.php and select TJ as the site. Since the competition is on January 27 from 10-1, you will miss some of the schoolday. Pick up a field trip form (so you don’t get an unexcused absence!) from Ms. Glotfelty in Room 27 this Friday, 1/14, during 8th period, and return it there by next Thursday, 1/20. We’ll see you there!

Hey y'all! To accommodate everyone the Linguistics Club yearbook picture was moved to the BEGINNING OF LUNCH - 11:45 - at Ms. Glotfelty's room.

The 2016 NACLO Open Round results are out! Check them out by logging into http://nacloweb.org/main.php.

North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad

NACLO participants,

As you know, school is closed tomorrow. I’ve contacted the NACLO coordinators and they have said there is absolutely no makeup date. We are not allowed to be on TJ’s campus for this test.

However, I have secured permission for us to be at one of the school district’s office buildings. To that end, I will proctor the test on Thursday from 12pm-3pm. I’m sorry that this is your only option. It is disappointing all around.

The test will be given at:

Fairfax Ridge Administrative Center
3877 Fairfax Ridge Road
Fairfax, VA 22030

If you can make it, arrive early enough to find parking (heck, the lots might all be filled with snow). When you arrive at the FCPS Front Desk, ask for Mrs. Allard or the NACLO. Hopefully, I will arrive before you and will be waiting to greet you.

Bring pencils. Bring tissues. Bring a water bottle. Bring a snack. I will have absolutely no supplies.

Now, the most important part. You MUST EMAIL ME by midnight to tell me whether or not you will show up tomorrow. I have to photocopy the contests which is no small tasks when I don’t have a copier, so I don’t want to make unnecessary copies.

Thank you for your patience. I hope this is an agreeable solution to those of you who really had your heart set on participating.
