Lifelong Learning at Virginia Theological Seminary

Lifelong Learning at Virginia Theological Seminary We connect, nurture, and celebrate communities of faithful practice.

The Center for the Ministry of Teaching was founded in 1985 to promote research and development to foster improved teaching practices and curricula in The Episcopal Church. Our resource library and ministry of consultation and training have historically served the Virginia Theological Seminary community as well as the broader Church. In more recent years, we have embraced the opportunities of the

digital age, expanding our technological resources and extending our ministry into the online world. We look forward to working with you as we seek and serve Christ through vital lifelong faith formation.

What does the Book of Daniel say to today's Church? Discover a biblical vision of courage, hope, and faithful living in uncertain times.

In this five-session course, you’ll discover:

• Why Daniel’s strange visions still speak powerfully into times of political and personal uncertainty.

• How archaeology, ancient history, and biblical theology illuminate one another in surprising ways.

• Why the Book of Daniel is far richer than a guide to predicting the end of the world.

Offered in person on the Virginia Theological Seminary campus or virtually.

Lifelong Learning celebrated Lisa Kimball, whose decade-long leadership of and vision for our department nurtured its growth and touched the lives of hundreds of seminary students, faculty, clergy, and lay leaders.

Although she is retiring from Virginia Theological Seminary, anyone acquainted with Lisa knows she will continue act on her vocation of inspiring followers of Jesus to discover new ways to live into their Baptismal Covenant. She will be supported and loved in this next chapter of her life by her wife Tricia Lyons, who has also been a beloved and valued member of Lifelong Learning.

Pictured are members of the Lifelong Learning team loving on Lisa at the home of VTS professor Shawn Strout who will begin working with our department starting August 1, 2026. Thank you for hosting us, Shawn!
