Today we recognize Juneteenth, a celebration and commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. Also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, Juneteenth marks a day in 1865 when enslaved Texans learned they would be free, two months after the end of the Civil War and two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.

Our 5th and 6th grade Band students, conducted by Lane Band teacher Mr. Woessner, performed a fantastic finale to our musical week as they wrapped up Wednesday evening's concert. These students also showcased how much they'd learned over the year, whether they started from scratch on new instruments in the fall or further perfected their skills on familiar ones.
Congratulations to all of our amazing instrumental musicians!

The musical magic continued at Lane on Wednesday evening, when Strings and Band students presented their spring concerts. First up was our youngest musicians - our 4th grade Strings students, who impressed the audience of friends and families with how much they'd learned since starting their instrumental music lessons in the fall. Our more experienced Strings students in 5th and 6th grade followed with their own impressive performance. Both groups were conducted by Lane's Strings teacher, Mr. Adkison Piccirello.

Music was in the air this week, as our student music groups presented their Spring Concerts. On Monday, the 5th and 6th Grade Choruses performed their Disney-themed Spring Concert for family and friends, and they did an amazing job! Led by Ms. McCormick and Mr. Crouch, the combined groups sang a delightful array of familiar Disney tunes. The program featured student speakers and soloists as well as a performance by the eight students who represented Lane at this year's All-County Choral Festival concert in April. Congratulations to all of these talented vocalists!

Eid Mubarak to all who observe! Eid al-Adha, or the โFeast of Sacrifice,โ is the second of two main holidays celebrated in Islam. Muslims believe that Eid al-Adha signifies the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim, known as Abraham in Christianity and Judaism, to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as ordered by Allah. It focuses on sacrifice, the pilgrimage to Mecca and giving to those less fortunate.
