Hello from the hen house!

This is a mille fleur bantam. Who can guess what "mille fleur" means?
Hard to look through these pictures without feeling those same sad pangs at having to leave such a wonderful community. So many lives impacted and changed forever here. ♥️
i happened to be thinking about my elementary days (in the early 60's), and remembered a field trip from my elementary school down the street to burgundy farm. the memory of a lamb running through one of the classrooms there still makes me smile. glad to see that you are still alive and striving! d.w., fredericksburg, va

Burgundy has an immediate opening for a full-time position as "Technology Support and Integration Specialist." This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic educator with strong technology skills or a skilled technician with a strong interest in elementary and middle school education, including an opportunity to inspire and support hands-on, experiential learning in our two new makerspace environments.

In addition to experience with tech support in an Mac/iPad/Chromebook environment and a commitment to promoting discovery, the ideal candidate will possess strong problem solving skills, work ethic, organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work with others. Salary is negotiable. A detailed job description is available here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/11BiZkFudUVfS4MDBRahZjJtR0YMZwP6wX0nnOFKwQtU/edit?usp=sharing.

Please reply with cover letter and resume to Joe Peacock, Director of Technology at: [email protected].
Hello. This has to have been taken during my 5th grade year (‘63-‘64) with Rachel Hall. She was a great teacher. I wish I could remember all these names. That’s Lynn on the far left (can’t recall her last name). To her left is Royce Davis. That’s me seated with the shield. To my left is Donald Witten. I don’t recognize the other guy with the helmet and shield. I have no idea who that is standing behind us.
Can anyone name them?
As I began to read the almost final letter from Ann and Jenny to the goat parents, I felt so compelled to write this.

I am so terribly grateful for Burgundy. I truly don't take for granted everyone that makes this school an absolutely amazing place. From Russell to Ali, Lori to Jeff, Ann and Jenny to the BPA and Tracy and Elizabeth who kicked off Kyria's learning experience at Burgundy. I'm so heartbroken to see such an educational general in Tracy moving on into another phase of life: ecstatic that K and I got to experience her complete dedication and sad that others won't get to experience her passion for teaching and the kids. But completely thrilled that there remain the Elizabeths, Barbies, Nicoles, etc that get to remain and pour into these little, powerful human beings. I feel a bit schizophrenic as I ride this emotional wave.

I remember feeling extreme anxiety when Kyria was moving from K to 1st and how Lori took me by the hand and had me visit the 1st grade, just like I was a new parent all over again. It really made me feel better. I've fell in love with Jenny and Ann and now we're moving on and I'm a HOT MESS with all the tears.

I'm so INCREDIBLY proud of all the hard work the kids have put in this year, so scared and anxious that K is growing up WAY TOO FAST and so glad that we get to come back to a school that embraces and nourishes K's body, soul and mind. Have I said I'm eternally grateful yet? Well, I am.

Words can't describe my gratefulness for the dedication and leadership Jeff and Elizabeth continue to show day in and day out. It is truly a privilege to work alongside you and all the parents that make Burgundy what it is.

THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER GREAT YEAR!!!

Ps: Shameless plug as the Annual Giving Captain, if you haven't given, I encourage you to join me in doing so. Every bit counts.
Having fun..
Burgundy days!!

Burgundy is a one-of-a-kind independent school for Junior Kindergarten through 8th Grade. We believe Burgundy students enjoy two amazing campuses.

Our main campus is a former dairy farm, 26 partially wooded acres, just off the busy Beltway of metropolitan Washington, DC. Many people can feel the change in environment as they drive on to the gravel road that leads into our Alexandria campus. We also support the Burgundy Center for Wildlife Studies, nestled in 506 acres of a secluded valley in West Virginia.

Scenes from the 4/5 Drama Celebration “Apples Always” 🍎🎬🎭

The 4th grade performances were a nod to the trades and occupations of the 4/5 Social Studies program, where each student played the role of the specific trade they studied in class. And the 5th graders studied and created their own masks for the show -- after learning the important theatre structure of commedia dell’arte, an Italian form of character performance that includes masks. Bravo, Lower Schoolers!

Recent smiles captured around campus! The last week of school countdown has begun :) ☀️

Photos from Burgundy Farm Country Day School's post 05/31/2023

Our Coopers and Redtails did a fantastic job presenting their Social Studies colonial projects last week for family and friends!

The students chose a colonial occupation and shared its culture and related artifacts with community members in attendance, bringing dramatic representation, student-led interest, and so much creativity to campus -- for example, check out the detail in the image of a student's fully 3D-printed farm layout.

Such excellent presentation and leadership skills were on display!

Visits to the Burgundy Center for Wildlife Studies (BCWS), our mountain campus in West Virginia, are always special for our students, parents, faculty and staff, and campers. However, there is nothing quite like when our students experience it for the first time.

Last week the first grade Goats set off on their first overnight trip to “the Cove” and since then have been sharing stories of seeing their favorite animals, exploring the pond by canoe, square dancing in the barn, learning about how to be a citizen scientist, and so much more. Seeing it through their eyes is truly magical!

It’s that time of year again! The Book Fair is here and happening all week in the Library from 8 AM - 4 PM, with extended afternoon hours on Tuesday and Wednesday until 6PM. 📚📖

Students have been previewing the sale during the day and getting their wishlist of books ready. Teachers are making classroom book wishlists too!

The library having partnered with Bookworm Central receives a percentage of all sales. Thanks for your support and make sure to stop by this week.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported this year’s Burgundy Auction! Whether you donated an item, volunteered, sponsored the event, bid on items, raised your paddle, or came out to be part of this special evening, you made a difference.

Burgundy’s auction is our school’s largest annual fundraiser for financial aid and in addition to supporting an important cause, the auction is an evening for our community to come together. The sun came out between two days of rain, and the tone of the night was joyful. It was heartwarming to see existing Burgundy friendships grow and new ones made. And the evening ended with some serious dancing!

Again, thank everyone who made the night such a success. We’ll see you at the auction next year!

It's essential that all of our students are welcomed and encouraged to engage as their true selves in all aspects of the Burgundy community.

Last Friday, students participated in the GLSEN Day of Silence. In this nationally recognized student-led demonstration, LGBTQ+ students and allies stand up to the harmful effects of harassment and discrimination of LGBTQ+ people in schools.

During lunch, we broke the silence as an entire community, celebrating with rainbow stickers, temporary tattoos, music, dance, and camaraderie!

This week the 4/5 Coopers presented their sustainable urban geo-cities, an end-of-unit math project, to several other Lower School classes.

For the project, the Coopers were paired into groups by mentor/mentee to showcase their understanding of different shapes, lines, area, perimeters, and volume. All the cities featured a common implementation of green initiatives such as transportation and energy sources to make them as sustainable as possible.

After seeing the innovation and creativity of each city, can’t you see it now… Burgundian Urban Planning LLC!

Our 1st through 8th grade Spanish classes have been studying the Andes region — learning about all the rich and diverse environments and cultures of the people who live there.

Currently on display in the Loft Gallery is "Viaje a Los Andes/ A Journey to the Andes" created by Maria and her students. This exhibit features artistic expressions such as costumes, jewelry, house designs, endemic crops and flowers, and Andean animals — some of which are endangered (condors and pumas, for example). The students also worked on social justice projects such as community health center plans for low-income indigenous people.

Visitors to the space are invited to step into the vibrant world of the Andes and discover one of the planet's most complex, challenging, and biodiverse environments.

The exhibit runs through Monday, April 10, so stop by the Loft today!
