Lego camp gives campers the chance to both build official sets and create their own designs individually and together.
Burgundy is a one-of-a-kind independent school for Junior Kindergarten through 8th Grade. We believe Burgundy students enjoy two amazing campuses.
Our main campus is a former dairy farm, 26 partially wooded acres, just off the busy Beltway of metropolitan Washington, DC. Many people can feel the change in environment as they drive on to the gravel road that leads into our Alexandria campus. We also support the Burgundy Center for Wildlife Studies, nestled in 506 acres of a secluded valley in West Virginia.

What are you doing to keep cool this week?
Today the first ever Burgundy Derby was held! Each car was crafted by our MakerSpace campers, and everyone gathered to cheer them on. Great job engineers!
Wednesday means ice cream day at Burgundy Summer Camp! The truck was greeted with cheers from campers as it arrived on campus. ☀️
No matter how much things change, some things at Burgundy will always stay the same!
Burgundy Signs of Summer!
The first summer camp session is in full swing, and campus is bustling with fun and energy.
We cannot believe it's already been a week since this memorable and free spirited graduation! So proud to welcome the Class of 2023 as our newest Burgundy Alums and we cannot wait to see where their love of learning takes them from here. More photos to come!

With graduation season in full swing, we have been thinking a lot about our alumni community. We are so proud of our alumni and the way they continue to respect our earth, stand up for what they believe, and spread kindness as they grow beyond Burgundy. Team Burgundy Forever!

And with that, the 2022-2023 school year comes to an end. Have a wonderful summer break, everyone!

Scenes from the 4/5 Drama Celebration “Apples Always” 🍎🎬🎭
The 4th grade performances were a nod to the trades and occupations of the 4/5 Social Studies program, where each student played the role of the specific trade they studied in class. And the 5th graders studied and created their own masks for the show -- after learning the important theatre structure of commedia dell’arte, an Italian form of character performance that includes masks. Bravo, Lower Schoolers!

Recent smiles captured around campus! The last week of school countdown has begun :) ☀️
Our Coopers and Redtails did a fantastic job presenting their Social Studies colonial projects last week for family and friends!
The students chose a colonial occupation and shared its culture and related artifacts with community members in attendance, bringing dramatic representation, student-led interest, and so much creativity to campus -- for example, check out the detail in the image of a student's fully 3D-printed farm layout.
Such excellent presentation and leadership skills were on display!

Congratulations to the cast and crew of Honk! Jr. on a wonderfully heartwarming production, celebrating all the good of being different!
The Class of 2023 delighted audience members of all ages by sharing Ugly's story through each character's charm and wit in an unforgettable weekend of performances. To our 8th graders, we are continually impressed by your confidence and teamwork both on and off the stage. Thank you for being you!
And to all involved in making this production such a success - honk, honk!!

Our Class of 2023 ducks have assembled and are ready for the opening production of Honk! Jr. this afternoon at 4:15 pm.
Make sure to go online before tomorrow at noon to purchase your tickets for one of the two remaining showtimes — tomorrow at 7:00 pm, and this Saturday at 3:00 pm. A cash concession will be available at the shows.
Best of luck to our 8th graders 🦆🎭
Visits to the Burgundy Center for Wildlife Studies (BCWS), our mountain campus in West Virginia, are always special for our students, parents, faculty and staff, and campers. However, there is nothing quite like when our students experience it for the first time.
Last week the first grade Goats set off on their first overnight trip to “the Cove” and since then have been sharing stories of seeing their favorite animals, exploring the pond by canoe, square dancing in the barn, learning about how to be a citizen scientist, and so much more. Seeing it through their eyes is truly magical!

As this week wraps up, we want to say a huge thank you to our Burgundy Parents Association (BPA) and parents for making this week so special for us!
It’s that time of year again! The Book Fair is here and happening all week in the Library from 8 AM - 4 PM, with extended afternoon hours on Tuesday and Wednesday until 6PM. 📚📖
Students have been previewing the sale during the day and getting their wishlist of books ready. Teachers are making classroom book wishlists too!
The library having partnered with Bookworm Central receives a percentage of all sales. Thanks for your support and make sure to stop by this week.
A huge thank you to everyone who supported this year’s Burgundy Auction! Whether you donated an item, volunteered, sponsored the event, bid on items, raised your paddle, or came out to be part of this special evening, you made a difference.
Burgundy’s auction is our school’s largest annual fundraiser for financial aid and in addition to supporting an important cause, the auction is an evening for our community to come together. The sun came out between two days of rain, and the tone of the night was joyful. It was heartwarming to see existing Burgundy friendships grow and new ones made. And the evening ended with some serious dancing!
Again, thank everyone who made the night such a success. We’ll see you at the auction next year!

It's essential that all of our students are welcomed and encouraged to engage as their true selves in all aspects of the Burgundy community.
Last Friday, students participated in the GLSEN Day of Silence. In this nationally recognized student-led demonstration, LGBTQ+ students and allies stand up to the harmful effects of harassment and discrimination of LGBTQ+ people in schools.
During lunch, we broke the silence as an entire community, celebrating with rainbow stickers, temporary tattoos, music, dance, and camaraderie!

Burgundy in Bloom 🌷
This week the 4/5 Coopers presented their sustainable urban geo-cities, an end-of-unit math project, to several other Lower School classes.
For the project, the Coopers were paired into groups by mentor/mentee to showcase their understanding of different shapes, lines, area, perimeters, and volume. All the cities featured a common implementation of green initiatives such as transportation and energy sources to make them as sustainable as possible.
After seeing the innovation and creativity of each city, can’t you see it now… Burgundian Urban Planning LLC!
Our 1st through 8th grade Spanish classes have been studying the Andes region — learning about all the rich and diverse environments and cultures of the people who live there.
Currently on display in the Loft Gallery is "Viaje a Los Andes/ A Journey to the Andes" created by Maria and her students. This exhibit features artistic expressions such as costumes, jewelry, house designs, endemic crops and flowers, and Andean animals — some of which are endangered (condors and pumas, for example). The students also worked on social justice projects such as community health center plans for low-income indigenous people.
Visitors to the space are invited to step into the vibrant world of the Andes and discover one of the planet's most complex, challenging, and biodiverse environments.
The exhibit runs through Monday, April 10, so stop by the Loft today!
We caught up with Zach and Kate in Advancement today, who reminded us to submit auction donations (of all kinds) by this Friday, April 7!
