Burgundy is a one-of-a-kind independent school for Junior Kindergarten through 8th Grade. We believe Burgundy students enjoy two amazing campuses.
Our main campus is a former dairy farm, 26 partially wooded acres, just off the busy Beltway of metropolitan Washington, DC. Many people can feel the change in environment as they drive on to the gravel road that leads into our Alexandria campus. We also support the Burgundy Center for Wildlife Studies, nestled in 506 acres of a secluded valley in West Virginia.

What are you reading this summer?
Here are a few of the books Burgundy's faculty and staff are reading over the break. 📖📚

At Burgundy we know that everyone benefits when we work together as one strong school community.
Kindergarten students took a visit to the Middle School and participate in a lesson with one of our science teachers. The results were 🔥
At Burgundy building is not limited to the block corner. 🌿
At the end of the school year the 4/5 Coopers created word clouds for every member of the class. What a great way to show how much they have grown to know and care about each other!
What would you put in a word cloud about Burgundy?
We hope you are finding a way to beat the heat this week!
The Burgundy pool is packed with campers this summer, but will be ready to welcome back students in the fall. All students get swim instruction in PE in both the fall and spring.
Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.

Burgundy's Maker Space is a dream workshop for anyone who loves to create! Run by one of the Middle School teachers, during the year it is used for Middle School arts electives and concentrations, as well as special projects that accompany the curriculum across all grades.
This summer Marker Space campers designed their own CO2 powered cars, and competed in the second annual Burgundy Derby. Full speed ahead!

Missing the peace of the Cove this summer? We hope you can find your own moments of reflection wherever your summer takes you!
It's impossible to capture the entirety of the Burgundy journey in just one night, but our 8th graders did a pretty amazing job of designing a graduation ceremony that honored each of their unique experiences over the years.
We love you class of 2024. Burgundy 2024-ever!

The fourth and fifth graders designed board games earlier this year. During the final week of school they were visited by a professional from a company that actually sells board games, and students were able to pitch their ideas and demonstrate what they made. We love connecting the student’s work to the wider world!
We hope the plants of our kindergarten foxes flourish this summer. We know they have plenty of love to share!
We are beyond proud of the class of 2024! Congratulations graduates!

Bringing the learning out of the classroom!
Our 8th grade students finished off their poetry unit in Humanities by sharing their original poems at a Burgundy Farm Open Mic at the Busboys and Poets in Historic Anacostia. Every student participated, and they were joined by teachers, parents, and even grandparents.
Thanks to our 8th grade humanities team for making this happen, and to everyone at who welcomed us and provided such great service!
Following a school unit that included research, writing, and presentations, our 4/5 students celebrate the end of their medieval adventure with a grand festival filled with merriment and history!
Whether practicing for end-of-year recitals, preparing for graduation or exploring the wonders of springtime at the Cove, spring is a joyful time for our students. It also means the end of Burgundy’s fiscal year is right around the corner. Your support makes all the difference for our students, so please make your gift to The Burgundy Fund by June 30!

Burgundy field day fun! 🌟

Our JK Chicks spent a very fun rainy day at the Zoo!
Last week our third graders focused on characters!
Conceptualizing a character concretely by drawing and making them makes it easier to bring them to life with our words. Students not only thought about the physical traits of the character but also the internal personality traits. We are more creative when we think about the same thing in many different ways.
We are sad to announce the unexpected passing of Travis Hudson on May 14, 2024. Travis was a joyful person to be around, and a long time member of our community. During his time at Burgundy he served as a PE teacher, coach, Summer Camp Director, Ex Day Director, and more.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
It's never to early to learn different ways to keep your body and mind healthy!
These kindergarteners had a great time practicing yoga. What a wonderful community where everyone can share their talents.
