One of our favorite features returns this year: Classroom Shoots! πΈ
Each week, a different campus will be featured on our social media feeds. These photos offer a glimpse into the amazing lessons that our teachers plan for students to learn!
At Paradise Elementary, Mrs. Melinda Langfordβs 5th grade ELA class recently explored Ojibwe life and culture through Louise Erdrich's "The Birchbark House". The novel gave students a rich backdrop for thinking about the people who came before us and those cultures that shaped this land.
The most resounding message of her lesson was that every student can learn incredible things through the power of reading. Her inclusive approach to classroom discussion gave students room to ask for clarification or offer an insight, and made clear that everyone is valued and has the potential to learn in her classroom. The lesson also laid the groundwork for a novel study that will strengthen reading comprehension and character analysis skills.

We were honored to host superintendents from our region and leaders from the Louisiana Department of Education, who met with State Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley and his team to talk through the issues shaping this school year for our students, teachers, and families.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and to the LDOE team for making the trip!

Every student in Rapides Parish eats breakfast and lunch at no cost. Keeping it that way takes just a few minutes of your time!

The Household Income Survey is a short, online form, and it does a lot of work behind the scenes. Your response helps us:
π Maintain our Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), so every student continues to receive free breakfast and lunch, regardless of income.
π Access educational support services for students.
π» Bring in additional resources for classroom materials and technology.
Completing the form does not change what your child receives. It simply helps us show the accurate needs of our community. Thus, helping us provide more opportunities for students!

Round up your change, and change our school year! πͺπ
Thanks to the Y-Not Stop Community Round-Up Fund, Rapides Parish schools are starting new projects this year that expand hands-on learning, build stronger teams, and open more doors to industry-based credentials for students.
The fund will also help us recognize our employees and support literacy and numeracy outreach across the district.
Every rounded-up transaction adds up to something real for a Rapides Parish student. Thank you, -Not Stop, and thank you to every customer who rounds up at the pump! β½
Congratulations to our Fall 2026 grant recipients!

And just like thatβ¦ we're back! π
Today marked the first day for students as part of our staggered start, with campuses welcoming a few grade levels at a time. That extra breathing room gives students the chance to learn routines, find their classrooms, and settle in before we go full speed ahead.
It was awesome to see all of the smiles, hugs, and new friendships forming. We can't wait to see what this year holds. Welcome back, Rapides Parish!

We broke ground today on the new Career and Technical Education building at Buckeye High School! π§
Planned to open in early 2027, students will have a dedicated space to train for industry-based credentials in high-demand career fields in Central Louisiana, such as HVAC and plumbing.
Local partners, ACA and Foster Construction, propelled this project. ACAβs significant investment in the project will support not only its construction, but will help facilitate the work-based experience for students.
We're grateful for their support and for the opportunities that this facility will provide for students!
