LSUA’s elementary teacher preparation program has earned an A+ rating from the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ), placing the program among the nation’s top programs for preparing future elementary teachers to teach reading effectively.

NCTQ’s latest Teacher Prep Review: Decoding Progress in Reading Preparation evaluated how well teacher preparation programs prepare future elementary educators to teach five core components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

The review evaluates whether future teachers are being prepared to use scientifically based practices in the classroom. LSUA School of Education exceeded the standards required for an A rating.

This preparation matters, especially in Louisiana. With literacy continuing to be a significant challenge for schools and communities across the state, our future educators will enter the classroom equipped with the knowledge and skills to help students become strong readers.

LSUA has been ranked the No. 3 Safest College Campus in America and No. 1 in Louisiana in Niche’s 2027 Best Colleges rankings, earning an A+ for safety.

This ranking considers both campus crime data and student perceptions of safety, reflecting the environment our students experience every day.

The LSU of Alexandria Police Department works hard every day to keep our campus safe, alongside a campus community that looks out for one another. Together, they help create the safe environment that earned LSUA this recognition.

LSUA has received accreditation approval for its new 90-credit-hour accelerated bachelor's degrees in Bioinformatics and Information Technology, clearing the way for LSUA to launch two first-of-their-kind programs designed to reduce the time and cost required to earn a bachelor's degree while preparing graduates for rapidly growing technology careers.

The accelerated bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics will combine biology, data science, and computational analysis to prepare graduates for careers in biotechnology, health informatics, and other data-intensive life sciences.

Information Technology will prepare students for careers in systems adminstration, networking, cloud computing, and cybersecurity.

The accelerated structure provides an additional option to LSUA's traditional bachelor's programs allowing students to select the pathway that best fits their academic and career goals.
