✨ Taking a look back at our third grade farm trip this spring….

✨ A rite of passage that third graders experience at PCWS. Our class took the train to upstate New York and spent a week on a working farm. They learned new skills, engaged in hard work, and awakened a new sense of independence and confidence in themselves and each other.

✨ Farming and gardening are a defining aspect of the grade three curriculum. At a time when children are feeling a shift within themselves that we call the nine-year-change, they feel separate from the world around them, new insecurities surface as they try to navigate where they fit into the world.

✨ The curriculum meets this shift with practical skills to help each child realize they are capable of making, growing, and building everything they need to survive.

We ended our school year with our fifth grade rose ceremony last Friday. The first grade children, who had received a rose from each fifth grader at the beginning of the year, gave a rose to each fifth grader.

The fifth grade class teacher gave each of her students a story, filled with characters that represented each child in the class. Each child received a copy of the story with their character on the front cover.

This loving tradition symbolizes the journey the class has been through together, and the gift from the teacher is a piece of her heart, which each child will always carry with them.

Waldorf education is about academics and learning, but it is also about heart and connection. The love that is formed within a class with each other and their teacher is a relationship like no other.

A sacred bond. ✨

Today, the second grade children successfully participated in traditional oral storytelling of Anansesem from the Akan people of Ghana, West Africa. Derived from the words Ananse (spider) and asme (stories/words), the term translates to "spider tales". 🇬🇭🕷️. Beyond individual roles, the entire class performed together as Ghanaian village children, sharing traditional West African songs and hand-clapping games. We are so proud of their hard work!🎵👏

💫💐🌞 PCWS May Faire was last Friday! Welcoming the peak of spring and the month of May, the entire school danced around the Maypole. The dancing was followed by a spectacular community event organized by our Parent Association. We picnicked, played games, made crafts, danced some more and laughed. It was a magical day that we will all cherish.
