ACTION NEEDED: Save $24M for Child Care! 04/25/2024

Hi everyone!! I’m making this post to raise awareness to what is happening with the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP). We feel that everyone needs to understand what is exactly happening. House appropriations just announced a $24 million budget cut to CCAP. This is a huge injustice to the families and children in our care that need these funds to be able to obtain quality early childhood programs. I ask that you please consider contacting your state rep and inform them that there are over 3000 families on the CCAP waitlist. We need to take the appropriate measures to inform them that funding desperately needs to be added, not taken away! The bottom line is that a reduction in funding will result in current families that are utilizing this program to lose their assistance and others will not be taken off the waitlist.

Our reps to contact are…

State Rep Jason DeWitt
318-277-7475
[email protected]

Senator Heather Cloud
337-461-2595
[email protected]

Please, we implore you to email and call!! I will also attach a link to a petition. Please take a few moments to sign. The vote is supposed to be Thursday.

Young children are our hope for a better future. We must take the appropriate measures to see to it that early childhood education is something that is needed and worth being investing in.

Thank y’all! If you have any questions, please reach out.

I had a discussion with our “big” kids this morning about the artwork you see pictured below that I felt compelled to share.

Last week, our teachers and the “littles” worked together to create this flower vase. While our bigs were looking at it, they noticed something about my handprint in particular that I hadn’t noticed. They all got excited about what appeared to be a heart in the middle of my palm. While talking amongst themselves, they pondered about how exactly it could have happened. The logical reason is because I didn’t put enough paint on my hand so it could transfer. They talked back and forth until they all settled on “it’s because she loves us”. I may or may not have teared up a little. 🥹

Moral of the story: these kiddos are more observant than they are given credit for. What might seem “logical” to us, may have a deeper meaning for them. If you ever feel like you aren’t doing a good enough job, stop and listen to how they speak about you. I bet it will turn your entire day around. Happy Friday, everyone. I hope everyone’s hearts are as full as mine. Thank y’all for sharing these babies with us. ❤️

We follow RPSB and we will be closed as well. Y’all stay safe!! ❤️

According to the National Weather Service and state authorities, we’ve been advised that the potential threat of the storms predicted for Wednesday will pose dangerous conditions for students and staff during the early morning hours and throughout the school day. The threat of these storms include potential flash flooding, hail, and tornadoes.

Therefore, all Rapides Parish Public Schools and Offices will be closed tomorrow, April 10.

We will continue to monitor the weather and conditions in Rapides Parish. Updates will be communicated in a timely manner on our social media channels and on our website: rpsb.us

Day Two: Tasty Tuesday!

Today, we tried different fruits to see which were our favorites!

As you can see from the highlights, some enjoyed them… others, however, did not. 😅

Your kiddo probably came home with a paper crown similar to what is pictured below. Be sure to turn it around and look at the “My favorite fruit today was..” box to see which fruit they liked best!

Week of the Young Child: Music Monday! 🪇🥁🎺

Today, we made a variety of DIY instruments to try out!

The infants and toddlers made maracas.
The two year olds made bottle shakers.
The pre-k kiddos made tambourines.

Videos of us trying them out in the comments! 🥰

Hi, everyone! Just a reminder, that although absences will be excused tomorrow, we will not be staffed to accept our school-age children until 3:00 PM! If you do choose to keep your kiddo home, please let us know so we can let our van drivers know. It just makes pick up run smoothly and in a timely manner! ❤️

Upcoming Solar Eclipse Announcement:

On Monday, April 8, Central Louisiana will experience a partial eclipse of the sun. This event is projected to begin at 12:27 p.m., with a peak at 1:47 p.m., and then ending at 3:07 p.m.

Considering the special nature of this event, we ask that parents and guardians follow the guidance that has been provided by their child’s school. Safety precautions are in place for viewing experiences, including wearing proper eye protection.

For those classes not participating in an outdoor viewing, a livestream option will be available for indirect viewing. This will ensure students are inside and protected, while still allowing them to experience the eclipse.

All outdoor activities on our campuses, including: physical education classes, recess, athletic practices, and the like, will be limited between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Schools will dismiss at regularly scheduled times.

You may choose not to send your child to school Monday due to safety concerns or to enjoy the eclipse at home as a family. Absences on Monday will be excused.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s school directly.

To say we have had a pretty eventful day would be an understatement! ❤️

We started the day with a little photo op 📸
Followed by an egg hunt 🐰
Lastly, we ate some pretty yummy snacks our parents provided. 😋

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our day! We hope you all have a happy and healthy Easter holiday! Can’t wait to hear all about it. ❤️

Due to the threat of ice being on the roads early in the morning, Discovery House will follow RPSB and will be closed January 17th! We hope you are all staying warm and getting all the snuggles from your kiddos! We will see you all Thursday!

Parents and RPSB Community,
We are monitoring the weather conditions in our area and consulting with local authorities. With the extremely cold temperatures through the night and tomorrow morning, there is a substantial risk of unsafe driving conditions for our buses as well as potential infrastructure issues in our schools.

Therefore, all Rapides Parish Public Schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

At this time we are planning for all schools and offices to reopen Thursday, Jan. 18. Further updates will be promptly communicated as needed.
Let’s continue to show the world that Rapides Parish is truly Better Together.
