Task initiation is an indicator that a child has strong executive function skills; a Montessori classroom is the ideal setting to practice independence.

Learning impulse control is necessary for success in school and beyond. Montessori environments are ideal for practicing self-regulation and impulse management.

Structured, self-directed Montessori classrooms inherently build and strengthen executive function skills. Focus and organization are two of the skills crucial for a productive life.

As we prepare to say farewell to our 8th grade students, we remember where they began. Each graduate of MEC is presented with a copy of "My Montessori Childhood," an original poem written by Pam Lenard and illustrated by Katrina Adams, both retired MEC teachers. Alumni, do you still have your copy?
