It's through the efforts of our NCIDQ Certificate holders that we can impact change & be successful in advancing policy that protects the public.
Here are some ways you can advocate for NCIDQ Certification and reasonable regulation in your jurisdiction:
• Stay up to date & informed on developments in interior design regulation by viewing our Advocacy Bulletin or texting “interior design” to 52886 to receive state & local advocacy updates.
• Become an NCIDQ Ambassador & advocate for interior design certification.
• Get involved with your state, local, or provincial chapter of the ASID, IIDA, or IDC.
• Introduce yourself & your work to your legislator. Occupational regulation is a state issue; developing a relationship with your state elected officials is a great way to be an engaged citizen.
• Register your NCIDQ credentials with your regulated jurisdiction.

Interior design encompasses the analysis, planning, design, documentation, and management of interior non-structural/non-seismic construction and alteration projects in compliance with applicable building design and construction, fire, life-safety, and energy codes, standards, regulations, and guidelines for the purpose of obtaining a building permit, as allowed by law. Qualified by means of education, experience, and examination, interior designers have a moral and ethical responsibility to protect consumers and occupants through the design of code-compliant, accessible, and inclusive interior environments that address well-being, while considering the complex physical, mental, and emotional needs of people.

NCIDQ Certificate holders should become certified, registered, or licensed within your jurisdiction to practice legally and help elevate and advocate for the profession.
It's important to understand that the regulation of interior design varies across North America. CIDQ strongly encourages interior design practitioners to be fully knowledgeable and in compliance with the requirements of the jurisdiction (states and provinces) in which they practice. It's important to check your jurisdictional requirements and register with your jurisdictional regulatory body to avoid the risk of violating regulations that may be subject to penalties.
Find information on your specific state regulatory board or provincial regulatory body. cidq.org/jurisdictional-requirements
