Fort Hunt Preschool

Alumni families invite you to join us for an all ages chance for the friends and families of the Preschool to come together and say goodbye.

This will provide a space to remember and celebrate the solemn, sweet, and fun that we have shared over the years.

You can see Dennis, tour the school, play on the playground, and share your experiences of a community that has meant so much to so many.

Our Spring Fling is hopping! Come by and have a fun time! We have Rocklands Food Truck, games, bouquets of flowers, yummy goodies and much more!

We have been planning some amazing activities and a few surprises for our Spring Fest TOMORROW!!!

We love snow days!

Our 4s class had a fun time picking out a new costume for Dennis!

They spent the last few weeks learning about measuring length. First they started with cubes, dominoes, and fun erasers and then learned what a standard unit of measurement is. With this knowledge, we measured Dennis’s shell and ordered a a new costume!

We already have a stegosaurus costume and a pink-sprinkled donut so the class voted and chose a crab!

They worked so hard and were very proud to see Dennis walking around as a crab.

Happy Hanukkah! Tonight is the second night of this Festival of Lights.

Today one of our amazing parents came in during snack and brought latkes to share and read a story about Hanukkah. She also brought in a menorah and dreidels to show the students and talked to them about the different traditions her family has during Hanukkah.

This week we are learning about different winter holidays and how different families celebrate them in their homes and communities. We can’t wait to learn more about our school community!

We play outside rain or shine… or snow! Friday was a fun day to bundle up and make snow creations, throw snowballs, and color the snow with spray bottles of colored water. We hope we have more snow soon to have even more fun!

We love our outdoor space at Mount Vernon Unitarian Church; look how pretty it is covered with a fresh dusting of snow!

There is something magical about a puppet show!

There are also SO many amazing social-emotional, language, cooperation, and cognitive skills learned through puppetry, storytelling, and dramatic play. With child-lead and emergent curriculum, we provide the tools and observe our students navigate how to play and how to play with others. The puppet theatre has been very popular recently and soon they will participate in project work to make their own puppets!

We love being a Parent Cooperative Preschool!

Last weekend was a really busy weekend! Our Maintenance Team built new garden boxes and performed safety checks on all our outdoor equipment. Our Admissions Team attended a Preschool Admissions Fair and talked to families about our amazing school. Our Fundraising Team organized and set up a Kids’ Market booth and sold gently used toys, clothes, and books; these funds will provide teachers with all the things they need to teach students about nature, social-emotional learning, and more!

All these team members are parent and family volunteers who love to help our school. We have a special community where everyone pitches so our school can operate safely and be an amazing place where children learn through play.
