Francis C. Hammond H.S. Class of 1970

The 2026 Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championship was this past weekend. The Alexandria City High School women’s teams did exceptional well. First Varsity - 3rd; 2nd Varsity - 1st; 3rd Varsity - 3rd; Freshman - 1st; and, Novice 8 - 1st. They also came home with the Regatta Point Trophy. The 2nd Varsity is coached by classmate, Lynne Hamilton Weir. The 2V trophy happens to be named the Dee Campbell Cup. Dee was the men’s coach at Hammond and after the school merger, the head women’s coach. This coming weekend the teams will compete in the 99th Stotesbury Cup Regatta in Philadelphia. They will then compete (May 22-23) in the 2026 Scholastic National Rowing Championship Regatta on Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, TN. Wishing them well.

A chance to reconnect with Hammond Classes 1966-1971...

Had a nice lunch with Peggy Marshall, Harlan Silverman and Linda Levine Silverman Psy. Of course a possible 55th reunion in 2025 came up.

1. Is there any interest in getting together in Alexandria, VA?
2. When’s a convenient weekend? Friday night school tour? Saturday pay your own dinner? Sunday brunch/lunch?
3. Memorial Day is last weekend in May, so, a weekend in June?

Saturday night dinner/dance: Ballroom/courtyard at the Sheraton Suites, 801 North St. Asaph Street, Alexandria. Registration begins at 5:15, with doors opening for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at 6:00. Dinner and music until 10:30; program and door prizes. Dress: Dressy, Sport Coats (ties optional); jeans discouraged. You’re invited to meet Friday night for a Welcome Happy Hour at the hotel bar: Dress: Casual. 80 people are needed to register/pay by May 25th to avoid cancelling this event. Hotel accommodations on September 9-10, 2022: Book your group rate for Hammond High School Class of 1971. Our group rate is $169 + taxes per night, with a maximum of 4 persons per suite. That means $338 + taxes for a two-night stay.
