Q&A with Keeley Rae – The Art League “My middle school teacher told my parents they should probably enroll me in some extra art programs because I had a real knack for it,” she recalls. “My parents like to say, ‘Before that, we never thought you were particularly skilled. We just thought your siblings were particularly bad.'”

"I gravitate towards nature, contemplating and observing flora and fauna. While the concept of my artworks is deliberately planned, each form takes a life of its own as it evolves through the slow hand building process. I am interested in inviting the viewer on a journey of sensory discovery through ceramics sculptural forms.

I am often inclined to use clay, slips and glazes to evoke various materials, sensations of a range of temperature and hardness, as well as experimenting with scale, profile and volume. Glazing and firing techniques are an essential part of the creation, wood firing often yields mesmerizing outcomes almost adding a fourth dimension to the sculpture." ~ Nada Romanos Abizaid

"Etheric," a ceramic sculpture by Nada Romanos Abizaid, received an Honorable Mention in Junes' Dimensions Sculpture Exhibit. It is on view through July 7.

"I wanted to represent a sense of isolation and uncertainty, or drawing into oneself during trying times. The pedestal is meant to represent a natural formation of hexagonal basalt columns, slowly eroding and collapsing into the sea, to represent both extended time and impermanence; like grief, anxiety, uncertainty, which can seem to last forever but do not." ~ David Fite

"Island," a terra cotta sculpture by David Fite, received an Honorable Mention in June's Dimensions Sculpture Exhibit. It is on view through July 7.

"'While You Were Sleeping' was inspired by my peaceful walks on the Blue Trail near my home in Clifton, Virginia. These trails leave me in a dream like state with their overwhelming beauty. This painting was also painted during a series of late night painting sessions. Hence, the title, 'While You Were Sleeping.' I hope this painting takes you to a dreamy place!" ~ Amy Waldrop ()
