🐾💙💚 Did you know that Bucknell has the largest number of PreK students in FCPS!?

With 15 classrooms serving PreK-aged students, our littlest Bulldogs are a BIG part of our family!

Today, our ECCB and PreK students celebrated their first day of school! 🎉 By lunchtime, we’re happy to report that our newest Bulldogs were settling into their routines, building relationships, and enjoying a meal together family style 💙

There’s something pretty special about watching our youngest learners begin their school journey. We can’t wait to see all the growing, learning, exploring, and joy this year will bring!

What a way to kick off a new school year! 💙💚🐾. This morning, music filled the air as we welcomed our Bucknell community and watched families walk their children to school for the first day. The energy, smiles, hugs, and excitement were exactly what we needed to begin another amazing year together.

Our Bulldogs felt the love today! 🐶💙 We spent the day focused on what matters most at the start of a new year… building relationships, establishing routines, creating a sense of belonging, and helping every student feel safe, welcomed, and ready to learn.

Day ONE reminded us exactly who we are: One School. One Pack. .

We are off to a GREAT start, and we’re so excited for the year ahead! 💙💚

Before the first bell rings, before classrooms fill with laughter, and before our Bucknell Bulldogs walk through the doors, there is an incredible team working behind the scenes to make sure our school is ready. 🐾

A HUGE thank you to our amazing custodial team for the extra hours, hard work, care, and attention you have given to preparing Bucknell for our staff, students, and families. From sparkling floors to clean classrooms and countless details most people never see… you have worked tirelessly to make our school shine! ✨

We are also excited to officially welcome two new members of our custodial leadership team!

🎉 Edwin Hernandez, our new Building Manager! …and this welcome is extra special because Mr. Edwin is already part of the Bucknell family as the proud parent of a Bucknell Bulldog! 🐶💙💚

🎉 Karla Palma, our new Night Head Custodian, who will help lead and care for our building each evening.

We are so grateful to have both of them joining our Bucknell family. If you see Mr. Edwin
or Ms. Karla around the building, please be sure to introduce yourself and give them a warm Bucknell welcome! 💙💚

Today we welcomed our families for Open House + Back 2 Bucknell, and it was so exciting to see our school filled with smiling students, families, and staff! Our students had the chance to visit their classrooms, reconnect with friends, meet their teachers, and get ready for an amazing year ahead.

Days like today are such a great reminder that Bucknell is more than a school… we are a community. When our students, families, staff, and community partners come together, our Bulldogs feel welcomed, supported, and ready to do amazing things💙

A huge thank you to our Bucknell PTA for supporting today’s celebration, to the West Potomac High School cheerleaders and student volunteers for bringing the energy, cheering on our Bulldogs, and helping with face painting, and to Mathnasium for joining us and supporting our Bucknell community!

The building is ready. The teachers are ready. And we hope our Bulldogs are ready too! 🐾

We can’t wait to welcome EVERYONE back on Monday for the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

Yesterday afternoon, we ended the day with one of our favorite Bucknell traditions… our Welcome Walks! 💙💚🐾

Our Bucknell community was proudly waiting for their teachers to stop by their homes, and we definitely didn’t disappoint! From big smiles and hugs to waves, laughter, and excited conversations, our students and families were truly the highlight of our day. 🥹✨

Community is at the heart of who we are at Bucknell. These moments remind us that strong schools are built on strong relationships… students, families, staff, and community all connected as ONE. 💙💚

And the welcoming continues TODAY! 🎉

This morning was FULL of joy! 💙💚 Our Bucknell team had the opportunity to take our Montessori Welcome Rides on the road, visiting the West Potomac communities that feed into our Montessori program at Bucknell Elementary!

There were SO many high fives, hugs, smiles, and warm welcomes along the way. Our students played and connected with one another, families met their teachers, and our Montessori community continued to grow right before our eyes 🥹💙

So much joy. So much fun. So much community.

This is why we do what we do. As Ms. Rourke shared this morning, our work isn’t just about serving students, it’s about serving communities. And today was such a beautiful reminder of what that looks like in action.

We are so excited to welcome our Montessori students and families to Bucknell and to continue building this community together!

This week, we welcomed our incredible Bucknell staff back to the building, and today we officially kicked off the 2026–27 school year together!

Our theme this year is Stay the Course, which is a reminder to celebrate the strong foundations we’ve already built while continuing to move forward with purpose, consistency, and a shared commitment to our students.

The energy in the building is AMAZING! Our staff are all smiles as we reconnect, team build, strengthen our bonds, prepare our classrooms and learning spaces, and get Bucknell ready to welcome our students and families back home. 🐾

We’re excited for what’s ahead and grateful to continue this journey together.

Today marked the first day of the FCPS Leadership Kickoff! 💙💚

Principal Green and Assistant Principal Toler are spending the next few days learning, collaborating, and planning with school leaders from across Fairfax County to ensure we’re strategically prepared for another incredible year at Bucknell.

Every session, every conversation, and every new idea is centered around one goal: creating the very best experience for our students, staff, and families.

Today, Principal Green and Bucknell’s Coaching Team had the honor of presenting at the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals (VAESP) Conference, sharing our framework for accelerating growth for our multilingual learners.

At Bucknell, we believe that every student deserves access to rigorous, engaging instruction—and this year, that commitment produced incredible results. Our multilingual learners achieved a 20% increase in WIDA growth, a reflection of the intentional work happening in classrooms every day.

We shared how our instructional framework centers on:
✨ Building academic vocabulary
🎯 Making learning targets visible
💬 Promoting rich academic discourse
📝 Supporting students with intentional sentence stems

Together, these high-impact strategies have strengthened language development while accelerating student achievement across all content areas.

We also highlighted how we are leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to support instructional planning, streamline leadership responsibilities, and increase efficiency—allowing our coaching team and school leaders to spend more time focused on what matters most: teaching, learning, and supporting students and staff.

We are incredibly proud of our teachers, instructional coaches, and students whose dedication made this growth possible. Thank you, VAESP, for the opportunity to share our journey with educational leaders from across the Commonwealth.
