Both Aristotle and Kant would agree that virtue is not based on circumstances but on a decision of the will (Aristotle - using reason to find the mean in emotion; Kant - subordinating one's maxims to the moral law).

My dad wanted me to be an olympic skater. I don’t think he would be disappointed that I’m still employed as a philosopher. But I don’t recommend it today as a career.
