Thanks to a bit of a Facebook glitch several posts went unpublished. Our apologies for the lack of updates! Here is what is in store for the rest of March!
Last week the school had a visit from the amazing Pastor Elijah, who taught the students about life in Zambia, Africa!
We learned that Victoria Falls, 1 of 7 Wonders in the world, is located here. We also learned they mine for copper which we use to make pipes or even cell phones. The students were fascinated to learn they don't have Targets to buy toys, they make toys and dolls from what they find like clay, when they would break they simply make more. Friends would have "hospitals" to fix the toys. Parents would bring wire and scraps from the mines and they would make toy cars and then play or race them! The students asked a great many questions and it was an amazing visit over all!
There's something a little... interesting...about this new "student" who might be joining us as a guest this week. Miss Nikki spotted him exploring the school today. More pictures to come as the week goes along!
Here are some highlights for our week ahead!

We are deeply thankful to each and every one of our families, past and present, for giving us the opportunity to nurture and grow the minds of your children! May this Thanksgiving bring blessings and joy to you all!
A poetic blessing:
For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.

Don't forget, no school tomorrow! Here are a few great ideas to help kids learn all about voting!
(From the website parents-together.org)
Show them the signs!
Point out some of the election signs, bumper stickers, brochures, phone calls, and ads that you encounter during election season.
Have a family vote!
Show kids how voting works on a smaller scale. Have a family vote about which movie to watch, or what outdoor activity to do after you've rocked your vote! Make a ballot box and an anonymous paper voting system, then have the kids help tally votes. (You can use pictures for younger kids. Older kids can even promote their favorite choice by making a speech or sign before the family votes)
Count on it!
After the election, do a simple math activity with kids to show them how the votes were counted. For example, count out 100 Cheerios and divide them into two jars to show them the percentage of votes that went to each candidate
You can also find printable activities here:
Welcome to November! Lots of excitement coming up this month! Due to technical issues, the calendar for November did not post this morning as scheduled. Please watch the wall for updates on all our events!
11/8 School Closed (Election Day)
11/10 Red White and Blue Day - Flag Salute 9:10AM (Weather permitting)
11/11 School Closed (Veterans Day)
Just a reminder, in accordance with the FCPS calendar, EWS is closed Monday, October 31, 2022 for a teacher work day!
The Halloween Parade is today! Please remember to bring a change of clothing for your students today for after the parade ends!
Have you stopped by our Usborne Books & More book fair yet? Please stop by the friendship room to check it out! Last day is Friday, October 28!
“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.” – Margaret Fuller
It was awesome to see such fun smiles on Picture Day last week! This week's excitement will bring the Halloween Parade on Friday! If you have a chance check out our parking lot pumpkin, which is starting to turn orange on the top!
A cute daddy long legs came up and picked out his own perfect pumpkin yesterday, ahead of the upcoming fall festivities! If you have a chance, check out our accidental live pumpkin patch, growing in the parking lot! There are 2 pumpkins growing so far but they are hard to spot!
Somehow this one didn't post earlier in the week, our apologies! Welcome to October!
Due to circumstances being our control in order to enter our grounds, you will need to enter via Mount Vernon Mem. Highway and turn onto Patton Blvd. You may enter via the exit.
We anticipate having to use the exit to enter and leave the grounds today and possibly beyond.
We apologize for the late notice and appreciate your patience!
FCPS is closed today, in observance of Rosh Hashanah, however, EWS will remain open.
FCPS has added several new closing dates to the calendar for the 2022-23 school year. In general we follow the FCPS schedule for closings, but we will not always be closed for every holiday or work day this year!
Have a marvelous Monday!
Fall is finally in the air and on the calendar! Many exciting things ahead for our school in the month of October! Stay tuned!
