Eid Mubarak to all who observe! Eid al-Adha, or the “Feast of Sacrifice,” is the second of two main holidays celebrated in Islam. Muslims believe that Eid al-Adha signifies the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim, known as Abraham in Christianity and Judaism, to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as ordered by Allah. It focuses on sacrifice, the pilgrimage to Mecca and giving to those less fortunate.

Congratulations to Josh and Brandon on their acceptance into the American Legion's Boys State! This year's program will be held at Hampden-Sydney College which is located south of Farmville, Virginia.
During the week long event, our representatives will be involved in a fast-paced simulation of the American Governing process. Essentially, rising juniors from around the state will build a mock government from scratch. At the end of the week, two senators will have the opportunity to represent Virginia at Boys Nation.
This program is very selective and we are honored that we are sending two representatives from MVHS! Congratulations to these young men on this distinguished honor!

"You are your own Brand!"
This is the message delivered by Mr. Anthony Robinson, an engineer and Mount Vernon HS parent, to a group of our students during the first ever MV Speaker Series - "Building Major Skills" events. He shared details of his U.S. Merchant Marine experiences and how he applied several 21st century skills (collaboration, communication, critical thinking) to shape his brand leading to long term success.
Just like Nike, Google or Tesla, your brand can speak volumes for you over the course of your career. As a life long learner, he also stressed the need to never stop building one's skill because your knowledge can power your income!
Thank you Mrs. Stewart for creating this series of conversations for our students!
