Wondering what skills to expect at age two? 💛

By 2 years old, many children are:
• Using 2-word phrases (“more milk,” “go outside”)
• Following simple directions
• Naming familiar objects and people
• Beginning pretend play
• Stacking blocks, scribbling, and using both hands together
• Exploring movement—running, climbing, and playing with purpose

Every child develops at their own pace, but if your 2-year-old isn’t meeting these milestones early support can make a big difference.

Speech and occupational therapy can help build communication, play, motor, and sensory skills in a way that feels natural and fun.

Thinking about ditching the pacifier? Here’s why we recommend stopping by 18 months.

• Can impact speech sound development (especially sounds like /s/, /z/, /t/, /d/)
• May affect proper tongue positioning and oral muscle development
• Can contribute to dental changes (open bite, misalignment)
• May increase mouth breathing habits
• Can interfere with clear speech as vocabulary grows
• May impact feeding skills or chewing patterns
• Can affect sleep quality if child wakes when it falls out
• Can become a strong dependency that’s harder to break over time

The earlier you wean, the easier it tends to be.

• Avoids or seeks out certain textures, sounds, or movement
