The LSUA School of Education is proud to earn an A+ rating from the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) for preparing future elementary educators to teach reading effectively.
This national recognition reflects the thoughtful work of faculty to ensure teacher candidates develop the knowledge and skills needed to provide effective, evidence-based literacy instruction across grade levels.
Most importantly, this work has an impact beyond the university classroom. LSUA graduates enter Louisiana schools prepared to help build strong, confident readers—and that is work worth celebrating. 🎉
LSUA’s elementary teacher preparation program has earned an A+ rating from the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ), placing the program among the nation’s top programs for preparing future elementary teachers to teach reading effectively.
NCTQ’s latest Teacher Prep Review: Decoding Progress in Reading Preparation evaluated how well teacher preparation programs prepare future elementary educators to teach five core components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
The review evaluates whether future teachers are being prepared to use scientifically based practices in the classroom. LSUA School of Education exceeded the standards required for an A rating.
This preparation matters, especially in Louisiana. With literacy continuing to be a significant challenge for schools and communities across the state, our future educators will enter the classroom equipped with the knowledge and skills to help students become strong readers.
