Today is National Family Literacy day! What can you do to celebrate not only today but every day? Read a story together and talk about what happened or your favorite part. Make a meal together and read the recipe aloud. Take turns writing or reading a shopping list while you are getting your groceries. While you are riding in the car, see who can find all the letters of the alphabet first! Model for your children by reading a book for fun. Keep a running list of all the things you are thankful for during the month of November and read it often. Celebrate reading everyday!

Alexandria Central is launching a new elementary literacy initiative for the 2021-22 school year. Reading skills are the foundation all other academic skills are built on, and we hope to help our students build lifetime skills and encourage them to be lifelong readers.
