Please join us in welcoming our new Lactation Consultant to the KLC team! 💙🩷🧡

Marisa Baker is a Registered Nurse and Lactation Consultant with 19 years of nursing experience, including 11 years specializing in lactation. With a background in NICU and Mother/Baby care, she brings extensive experience supporting families through a variety of feeding journeys.

She provides compassionate, evidence-based support for prenatal education, breastfeeding, pumping and milk supply, combination feeding, bottle feeding, and feeding challenges. Meet Sydnee! 💙🩷🧡
Sydnee is one of our wonderful Speech Pathologists, and we’re excited for you to get to know her a little better!

One of her favorite parts of her job is watching kids grow in confidence and become more excited to communicate. She loves finding ways to make therapy meaningful and fun, especially when those skills start showing up outside the therapy room too. 💗

When she’s not working, you can probably find her reading on her Kindle, taking a workout class, or working on needlepoint, preferably with some popcorn and a Coke Zero nearby. 😊

We’re so glad to have Sydnee on our team!

One back-to-school routine that doesn’t get talked about enough: what happens right after school.

Kids have spent hours listening, remembering, transitioning, communicating, following directions and navigating a very busy environment. Sometimes the child who walks through your door at 3:30 just doesn’t have much left in the tank.

Before jumping straight into homework, chores and questions about their day, try creating a simple “landing routine.”

Maybe that’s snack + outside time. Maybe it’s 20 minutes of quiet play. Maybe your child desperately needs to talk the second they get in the car.

There isn’t one right version.

for me it might fall off. I don’t think that’s for her but we can try it all right love you, sister The helpful part is making that transition predictable and noticing what actually helps your child regulate and re-engage before asking their brain to do more.

And when it is time to start homework, give them the first small step instead of the whole task at once:

“Let’s grab your folder.”

Then go from there. 💙🩷🧡

One of the most practical things families can do is rehearse the small parts of the school day that children will be expected to manage more independently.

Try eating one lunch from the actual school lunchbox. Practice opening the water bottle, carrying the backpack and getting completely ready to leave the house. Role-play what your child can say when they need help or are unsure what to do.

These tasks may seem small to adults, but practicing them in a calm, familiar environment can make the first few days feel much more manageable.

You do not need to practice everything. Choose one or two areas that may be unfamiliar for your child and start there. 💙💗🧡
