“Abstracted Nature: Symmetry”, just completed by the artists in the CNM Westside Campus Drawing II class (with Instructor Lea Anderson). Colored pencil and fine line marker on Canson MiTeintes paper, each 19”x25”.
This was a multi-step project: Students each referenced several photographs of natural subjects to abstract for their designs. They also chose a Color Harmony, (Split-Complement, Analogous, Triad, Tetrad, Warm/Cool, etc) and produced a sampler of color combinations/patterns/textures. Each student then made two preliminary studies, and a final enlargement using the grid.
Colored pencil is a challenging medium, often requiring patience and practiced familiarity with the medium for success. The material exploration, color possibilities, and multi-step design phases of this project were interesting experiences for the students, incorporating a lot of decision-making. As a result, each of these dynamic pieces is so rich… and the bilateral symmetry feels so satisfying, doesn’t it?!
🦋Stunning work Drawing II artists! 🙌🏽

Hungry for artistic inspiration? Feast your eyes on these “Fantastic Food” pastel drawings by CNM Westside Campus Drawing II (with Instructor Lea Anderson).
For this project, the artists used either oil or soft (chalk) pastel on pre-toned burgundy colourfix paper. Each piece is 19”x27”.
Technical emphasis was on accurate/enhanced interpretation of form and color. Conceptual emphasis was on food as personal/cultural narrative. Excellent work!
