Every year before summer begins, Children’s Choice hosts a staff retreat to prepare for the season ahead. It’s a time to reset, connect, and build the energy that makes summer camp so special.
This year, we spent the day at Glorieta Adventure Camps, where our team had the chance to bond, learn new games, and fully step into the spirit of camp. From snow tubing and tree climbing to slingshot paintball, group development activities, and singing together, the day was packed with laughter, growth, and unforgettable moments.
We spent 11 hours together building stronger connections and creating memories that will carry into the summer with our campers. These are just a few highlights from an incredible day.

We recently had a huge loss in our community. It is with great sadness that we share this loss. On Thursday June 26, 2025, the daughters, ages 15 and 12 of two University of New Mexico staff members were killed in a head-on collision in northwest Oregon while on a family vacation. A truck crossed into the oncoming lane and struck another vehicle before continuing and hitting the vehicle head-on driven by Charles LeBlanc. There is a Go-Fund-Me to help the family as they recovery from this tragedy. Help out if you can.

This weekend, our staff trained with Dr. Gale K. Gorke, an educator with over 40 years of experience. She guided our team through group games and strategies for effective communication and building healthy relationships. Additionally, she helped staff explore positive discipline techniques that encourage children to make healthy choices and self-manage their behavior. Dr. Gorke also shared valuable methods for reducing stress and nurturing overall well-being.
"The best way to learn is through play, and the way you show up for the game is the way you show up for life."
