From Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority

Today we celebrated the completion of a multi-million-dollar environmental restoration project to return more than 11 acres of Rio Grande bosque to its natural condition, aiming to improve habitats and water quality for endangered species while providing better access for hikers and bicyclists. Officials from multiple agencies and residents of the Mountain View neighborhood joined us for the ribbon cutting. Restored areas near the Water Authority’s Southside Water Reclamation Plant Outfall now includes terraced floodplains to create favorable spawning conditions for the endangered Rio Grande Silvery Minnow. Invasive vegetation have been replaced by some 33,000 native plants to benefit the endangered Southwest Willow Flycatcher and other wildlife, and almost one mile of new hiking and biking trails for improved access to the river and bosque. We hope the Albuquerque and Bernalillo County community come by to take in this beautiful outdoor space.
