Encouraging news for early literacy in APS! 📚✨

Midyear data shows strong gains in reading proficiency among first and second-grade students, especially within historically underserved student groups. Several elementary schools saw increases of more than 20 percentage points since the start of the school year, a testament to the hard work of students, educators and families across our district.

All APS schools and district offices will be closed on Feb. 16, 2026, in observance of Presidents Day.

📣 Reminder for families and staff: All Albuquerque Public Schools and district offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

We look ahead to honoring Dr. King’s legacy and his call to service, justice and equity.

Here’s what the return from break looks like:
👉 Mon., Jan. 5 – Teachers and staff return for a Professional Development Day. No school for students.
👉 Tue., Jan. 6 – Students return. First day of the second semester!
