July 17 marked the anniversary of one of the most important engineering breakthroughs in modern history.
In 1902, Willis Haviland Carrier completed the design for the world’s first modern air-conditioning system. Ironically, it wasn’t invented to make people comfortable—it was invented to solve a humidity problem at a printing plant.
More than 120 years later, every technician, engineer, and HVAC professional still works with the same fundamental refrigeration principles that Carrier pioneered.
