We're honored to be recognized by The 74 as one of the few New Mexico schools that "beats the odds" in reading.
This recognition belongs to our students, teachers, and families. Hard work, joyful learning, and high expectations make an incredible combination. We're so proud of our Altura Prep community! 💙

New Mexico is famous for Hatch chiles, hot air balloons and some of the most breathtaking landscapes in America. It should also be known for schools that are beating the odds in literacy.

Through The 74's Bright Spots project, which analyzed data from roughly 42,000 public schools nationwide, we identified schools where third-grade reading proficiency significantly exceeds what would be predicted based on local poverty rates. These New Mexico schools emerged as positive outliers in early literacy.

We're proud to recognize the following New Mexico schools as Bright Spots for Excellence in Reading Education:

Altura Preparatory School
S. Y. Jackson Elementary
Bell Elementary Deming
South Mountain Elementary
Mesa Elementary

These schools are helping students achieve excellence in reading and showing that with strong instruction and high expectations, great things can happen in every corner of the Land of Enchantment.

They started school behind 💻, came to campus for the first time wearing 😷, led the school to new heights 📈 and now they are on to 6th grade! 🤩👏🏼 Proud of this 5th grade crew and all they’ve accomplished so far. We know this is just part of your beginning! 💙

Our end-of-year carnival was filled with games, slides, face paint, cotton candy, ice cream, music, laughter, and so many unforgettable moments. Thank you to everyone who helped bring this event to life and made it such a fun experience for our students! 🍬🍿🎟️

Today our Prepsters brought special gifts of their choice for their teachers and staff members as a small token of appreciation for all they do each day. 🍎💙

From thoughtful notes and favorite snacks to classroom goodies or handmade surprises, every gesture meant so much to the incredible educators who pour their hearts into our Prepsters each and every day.

Some of the most meaningful gifts a teacher can receive are heartfelt words from the students they love and support each day. 🍎✨Today, we invited each Altura Prep student to write a special note, letter, or handmade card for their teachers and staff members, sharing how they have impacted their life this year or what makes them so very special.
