To Present "Rock & Roll Renaissance: Pop Artists Writing Classical Music"

With Jane Ellen, Composer, Recording Artist, Lecturer and Pianist

On Wednesday, April 28, 2010 from 6:00 – 7:30PM, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute will host "Rock & Roll Renaissance: Pop Artists Writing Classical Music" with Jane Ellen, Composer, Recording Artist, Lecturer and Pianist. Join us for the lecture and light refreshments in Rooms B&C of the Continuing Education North Building. Your 2010 Osher Membership card or Membership Registration in the amount of $20 is your admission for this event. This is the first in a series of Free Monthly Lectures for Osher Members.

Rock and pop artists tend to have a negative public image when it comes to their hours spent off-stage; however, it might surprise you to find that some artists spend those hours writing serious music. This presentation will explore exciting works from both sides of the musical coin by Keith Emerson, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Elvis Costello, Chick Corea and other popular musicians who have taken a walk on the classical side.

Jane Ellen is a published, award-winning composer who shares her passion for music, history, and religious studies with Albuquerque audiences. A popular, long-time instructor for OASIS, Jane has also presented programs for the International Anne Frank Foundation, Elderhostel, KHFM-Radio, and various social and religious groups. With a catalog of over 60 published works, and numerous commissions, she has released four CDs of original compositions and written for musical theatre, television, radio and film.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute was established through a grant from the Bernard Osher Foundation in 2007 and membership in the Osher community is open to adults age 50 plus who are seeking intellectually challenging, psychologically probing and spiritually engaging learning opportunities. A $20 annual membership fee provides the Osher member with access to the Osher community of Learners, the Free Monthly lecture Series and a growing list of benefits on the UNM campus and city wide.
