Hello to All.... I was contacted a few days ago by a student, Grace Yoder, from Ball State University in Indiana. Grace is a graduate student working on her Master's Thesis. I have checked out her study and it looks great. I generally don't allow study links to go up on our page but Grace's study checks out. If you can spare a few minutes in your day, please participate in her study. This is what she wrote to me and this is the reason I am allowing this study link on our page...
"My name is Grace Yoder. I am working on my Master’s Thesis at Ball State University (in Indiana) and I am surveying parents of children with an autism spectrum disorder. The questions are pretty non-intrusive (about coping, empowerment, and life satisfaction) and it has been approved by Ball State’s Institutional Review Board.
My brother has autism, and that’s how I got interested in working with family members of people with autism.
I’m doing research on parents of children with autism to get an idea of how they cope with the stress of raising a child, and how that relates to other areas of their lives. If you are a parent of a child with autism, have about 15-20 minutes, and are willing to take this survey it will really help out. Hopefully as research like adds up, it will lead to better support for parents of children with autism!

Hello All... It has come time for Fletcher and I to post the announcement of the transition of our ACC clinic to a new clinician/owner. We welcome Mrs. Jessica Donaldson, MS CCC-SLP as she takes over the operation of the clinic and care of our clinic kids and their families. Jessica has been in private practice for the last 8 years in ABQ as a speech/language therapist specializing in autism spectrum disorders. She is certified in Ayers Sensory Integration and has worked with all ages of individuals on the spectrum from 1 year to 60 years of age. Jessica also has a brother who is on the autism spectrum so she brings with her the spectrum family and sibling perspective. Everything at the clinic will stay the same including the clinic phone number and all the same services will be offered. The name of the clinic will change as Jessica will operate under her business name of Autism Specialists LLC. It's just about impossible to put into words how thankful we are to have been given the opportunity to build our own therapy clinic 5 1/2 years ago specifically to serve our ASD kids and their families. The decision to pass the clinic on was an extremely difficult one for us but we could not be happier knowing that our kids and their families are in good and capable hands with Jessica and her family. It was truly our pleasure to serve this awesome ASD community here in ABQ. We will miss all our clinic kids, families and friends very much!

I absolutely love this! I'm guessing he will most likely be able to utilize his focused interest for employment once he is an adult . He already has the focus on research and design, testing and sales. The possibilities are great for his future thanks to his mom who sees his interest focus as something that makes her child happy and not something that needs to be controlled or extinguished. We are reaching out to our ASD community family asking if you would please take a moment to click on Dylan's boats and quail paintings and "like" them as your vote. Dylan has entered a call for local artists contest which if he wins he will get the chance to paint on a snow board to be auctioned at Taos Ski Valley's breast cancer event next month. Hello Everyone! Things are finally starting to slow down at the clinic now we are through the holidays and have started back on our regular therapy schedule.
ALSO... we have just learned that our phone line has NOT been working correctly for AT LEAST the last couple of months! If you have called and either the line cut off and did not get to the voice mail or the phone rang with no voice mail or your call went directly to the voice mail then chances are we did not get your message. We are very sorry this has happened and will be contacting Century Link to come out and look at the line as this is not the first time it has happened. If you have left a voice mail over the last few months and have never received a call back, please either email [email protected] or try calling again to leave a voice mail. Again, we are very sorry and hope to have the phone lined fixed as soon as possible. Thanks!

Announcing Research Study Participant Recruitment!

Families of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder Between the Ages of 8 and 10 years of age or 3rd through 5th Grades (2014-2015 School Year)

Fletcher Scott, Owner of Autism Communication Consultants, is currently seeking four participants for a 12 week intervention research study examining the effects of Movie Time Social Learning (MTSL) on emotion recognition, perspective taking and empathy. MTSL uses movie watching to teach social concepts.

We have a happy announcement! A new Speech Pathologist has joined our ACC family. Welcome to Shawnna Gaffney! She was born and raised here in New Mexico. She received her Undergraduate Degree from University of New Mexico and her Graduate Degree from Florida State University. She is a fantastic Speech Therapist who really "gets it" and most important is great with our kids and families. She does have some openings for Speech Therapy.
