Successful checkrides start with solid studying and teamwork.
Yesterday, two of our upcoming private pilots battled it out in a “Checkride Prep Thunderdome” with CFII Kirstin Bowman as proctor.

Every pilot remembers the sound of their own voice on the radio for their first solo. It makes the controller smile because they know exactly what’s happening on the other end. Diego McDaniel made that call recently at Del Sol.

His CFI Jocelyn Muniz was standing on the ramp watching him taxi away, which is its own kind of moment. The instructor watches the airplane they’ve been flying for weeks leave without them in it, and they have to trust the work they put in. He crushed it, just like she knew he would.

Congratulations, Diego! That radio call is one you’ll hear in your head for the rest of your flying life.

Is this the year you stop making excuses?

There’s a moment in every discovery flight where the student stops thinking about what they’re supposed to do and just flies the airplane. For Scott Malmberg it happened pretty quickly. CFI Arthur Yarotski had been walking him through the basics, talking him through small corrections, and somewhere over Albuquerque it just clicked.

That’s the moment that tells you a student is coming back. Scott came back down with that look on his face. The one that says I’m doing this for real. Welcome aboard, Scott.

If you want to find out what your moment feels like, we’re here.

Aaron Perez took his first flight at Del Sol on Saturday May 16th, and he brought the whole family with him to watch! ✈️

There’s something different about a discovery flight when your people are there for it. We hope this family photo stats framed in the hallway twenty years from now!

Thanks to the Perez family for coming out. That kind of support is what gets airline pilots across the finish line. Welcome to aviation!

Micah Vigil took his first ride up front last Friday at Del Sol! If you’ve never done a discovery flight, you show up, you sit in the left seat, the CFI walks you through the basics of preflight and you’ll get to fly the airplane with them!

His CFI Kirstin Bowman was sitting right seat and said he was a natural. Welcome to the front office, Micah.

Thank you, Albuquerque Tower, for the informative meeting last Thursday! ✈️

We discussed DSA’s new callsign, ‘Del Sol,’ along with other important safety updates.

The controllers shared positive feedback about how Del Sol pilots are working with KABQ Tower. and we’re proud to keep improving every day. 😁

We appreciate all the hard work you do, abqtoweratc

Zachary Widhalm soloed Friday at Del Sol!!! If you’ve never done it, a first solo is a weird mix of “I’ve done this a bunch of times” and “wait, where did my instructor go.” The door shuts, the right seat is empty, and the airplane gets real light real fast. Then you go fly it.
Zachary handled it like it was no big deal. Three around the pattern, three landings, name on the wall.

Big shoutout to his CFI Kirstin Bowman for getting him there. The endorsement doesn’t get signed unless the instructor knows the student is ready, and Kirstin called it right. Congrats, man. You earned it!
