The relationship between oral language development and literacy is complex and deeply interconnected. Looking forward to listening to this discussion on DLD and dyslexia and continuing to elevate awareness around the ways these profiles can overlap in students.

In this new episode of The LDA Podcast, Carlin Graveline Ku discusses developmental language disorder, and shares how language skills and reading skills intersect. Carlin explains why DLD is hard to identify, and the importance of understanding the root cause of difficulties in reading.

I’m always inspired by the educators and professionals who seek out advanced training in dyslexia and academic language therapy.

After many years in private practice and working alongside educators on their training and certification pathway, that commitment never feels routine. Welcome to the 2026 MLTI–NM cohort!

Future cohort applications open February 1, 2027.

A clear, accurate understanding of dyslexia provides the foundation for effective support. This session is designed to offer that foundational framing, connecting current definitions of dyslexia to what that means for instruction, access to learning, and student experience.

We’re looking forward to this opportunity to support continued learning for educators and families.

Details and registration are available through SWIDA.

I’m proud to be part of The Reading League New Mexico and the broader community of educators and stakeholders committed to improving literacy outcomes across our state. When we connect across roles and communities, we strengthen shared understanding and better coordinate efforts to support both educators and students through evidence-aligned instruction. It has been encouraging to see these relationships grow, especially considering the New Mexico chapter is only two years in.

In that spirit of collaboration and continued learning, registration is still open for the Linking Arms Literacy Conference, taking place February 6-7, 2026 in Albuquerque. The conference brings together an incredible lineup of speakers and offers meaningful opportunities for educators to deepen knowledge and connect. The registration link includes the conference flyer and a schedule-at-a-glance so attendees can preview session content. In-person or virtual participation option available.
