"Help us give a big Charger thank-you to Academy parent and sports photographer Venita Ames (P ’27)! Since 2017, Venita has been behind the lens capturing countless Charger athletic moments - from championship meets and senior recognitions to unforgettable game-day celebrations - and generously sharing them with our community. If you scrolled through a SportsYou high school team feed this year, watched the AAPA Homecoming highlights reel, or saw the memorable October photo of the Charger Girls Varsity Soccer team celebrating after ending a rival’s 56-game winning streak, you’ve seen Venita’s incredible talent in action.

Thank you, Venita, for documenting these moments - we are so grateful! Click through to enjoy just a few athletic memories captured by Venita this year. "

Come celebrate the work of the Academy’s visual arts students this Thursday, May 7, from 5-7 p.m. The AAPA is proud to host the Opening Reception for the Spring Student Art Exhibition. Enjoy light appetizers as you explore the Visual Arts Building and experience student artwork from across all grade levels. If you have a little extra time that day, the AAPA would also love a few extra hands to help with reception setup and cleanup. Please see the volunteer sign-up link in the comments.

A little jazz, a lot of dancing, and plenty of bayou flair! Freshmen celebrated A Night on the Bayou at their formal last Friday as the East Campus Dining Hall and patio transformed into a lively New Orleans-inspired scene complete with live jazz, fresh beignets, lush greenery, glowing candlelight, and a packed dance floor.

Thank you to Mr. Truitt and the Flambeaux jazz band, DJ Teach, and Magic Mirror Photo Booth for bringing the entertainment and energy all evening long. Thank you to chef Kandie from Badger Does Stuff - Foodie Edition for the classic New Orleans beignets made throughout the night! Huge thanks as well to the parent volunteers, Class of 2029 and 2030 class officers, and 8-9 faculty chaperones whose creativity, teamwork, décor, food, drinks, and behind-the-scenes help made the night so special.

And a final shoutout to the many families who have donated décor to the AAPA over the years - nearly every piece of greenery, lighting, and every candelabra stored in the AAPA office was used to help create this memorable event!

The AAPA was proud to recognize several outstanding members of our community with this year’s Charger Spirit Awards at yesterday’s General Board Meeting. Our 2025-26 faculty/staff recipient is Adrian Reyes, Academy’s Event Setups Manager. From student celebrations to parent gatherings, every AAPA event is smoother, more successful, and more welcoming thanks to Adrian and his team. We are so grateful for all you do - thank you, Adrian!

This year’s AAPA General Board recipient is Miki Haverlock, chair of the Spirit Committee. Miki took the reins of our growing Spirit Committee this year and elevated its energy, creativity, and impact across campus. Thank you, Miki, for bringing so much Charger spirit to our community!

The AAPA also presented a special bonus Charger Spirit Award to Past President Jennifer Scrivner, our true Queen of Spirit! Over the past seven years, Jenn has devoted countless hours, energy, and unwavering dedication to supporting Academy students, faculty, and families. Her behind-the-scenes work has touched every corner of campus life, and all of us have benefited from her leadership and care. Thank you, Jenn, for everything you have given to the Charger community!
