Today is the last day of our summer Friendraiser! Have you donated yet?

At VCI, we know that interpretation is an exciting career field that is poised to grow, and we’re dedicated to building a network of professionals that reflect the communities they serve. But why do we do this? Because by increasing the amount of interpreters available, community members are able to receive critical information about their health, children's education, social services and so much more in the language they prefer. This allows for all parties to have actual autonomy over their own communication and control over their own lives – but we need your help to do it!

Join us in building a pathway for those who are ready to enter the interpreting workforce, but might need a little support to get there by donating to our summer Friendraiser today at https://bit.ly/vci_raise!

Whether you are a business owner, community leader, or service provider, if you work with New Mexicans, you will encounter someone who speaks a language other than English. That’s why it’s important to have accessible tools that empower the people you serve to get the information they need!

Our “I speak” cards provide a quick and easy way for those who speak a language other than English to request interpretation services. Download your copies from our website at vcinm.org (scroll down to “Resources” on our home page), and be sure to display them somewhere that can be easily seen.

Happy Disability Pride Month!

Did you know that Language Access also includes ensuring that people who have vision, hearing, or speech disabilities have the ability to effectively communicate with those around them? And that this is right protected by law?

The Americans with Disabilities Act requires state and local governments, public entities, and businesses to provide reasonable accommodations and auxiliary aids to those who need them, while Title VI of the Civil Rights Act protects those who speak a language other than English from discrimination.

Learn more about the Americans with Disabilities Act and Disability Pride Month at https://loom.ly/Kr_M7RY and join us in committing to ensuring that everyone has the ability to effectively communicate this July!
