Brysan Redwine grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in May
2026 with a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Exercise Sciences on the Pre-Physical Therapy
track. He graduated Magna Cum Laude, debt-free, and was accepted into the OU Health
Campuses' Physical Therapy program, where he plans to earn his Doctorate in Physical
Therapy in 2029.
As the oldest of seven children, Brysan was raised with a strong emphasis on hard work, faith,
service, and persistence. His father, a pastor in Oklahoma City, played a major role in shaping
Brysan’s character and teaching him the value of leadership, integrity, and treating others with
compassion and respect.
When Brysan was a teenager, he was involved in a ski accident that resulted in fractures to both
his tibia and fibula. The injury required months of recovery and physical therapy, where he had
to relearn how to walk and rebuild strength in his leg. During that process, Brysan was deeply
impacted by the encouragement and care shown by his physical therapists, inspiring him to
pursue the profession himself so he could one day help others through difficult recoveries of
their own.
Throughout his four years at OU, Brysan worked as a Physical Therapy Technician to gain
hands-on experience, build relationships with patients, and complete the clinical hours required
for PT school. Through scholarships such as Cobell and his work as a PT technician, he was
able to pay for all of his tuition and living expenses as a completely self-supporting student. He
balanced academics, work, leadership, and service while remaining committed to his long-term
goal of becoming a physical therapist.
Brysan was heavily involved on campus through organizations such as Dodge Family Scholars
and the Unified Sports Club, where he served as co-president and helped facilitate Special
Olympics activities and service projects throughout the community. He also had opportunities to
study abroad in Puebla, Mexico, and complete a semester-long internship in Arezzo, Italy,
where he learned to serve patients across language and cultural barriers.
Brysan’s educational journey also inspired his younger brothers, Tillman and Holdan, to attend
OU and apply for the Cobell Scholarship. Both are now Cobell Scholars pursuing healthcare
careers of their own, continuing the impact the scholarship has had on Brysan and his family.
As a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, Brysan hopes to use physical therapy to
serve his local community and Indigenous populations in need of healthcare resources. He
credits much of his success to his faith, family, mentors, and scholarships like Cobell, which
helped make his educational journey possible. Brysan encourages Indigenous students
considering higher education to apply for Cobell, because opportunities like this truly have the
power to change lives.
