Oasis Albuquerque is a non-profit organization affiliated with the Oasis Institute in St. Nationally, Oasis programs reach more than 52,000 individuals and engage more than 6,100 volunteers annually. Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring Program: Oasis volunteer reading mentors help elementary students enlarge their world by exposing them to a love of books. Reading mentors commit to spending one hour,

one day a week to mentor K-4 students in one-on-one sessions for a school year. We volunteer in Albuquerque, Belen and Bernalillo Schools. After training the commitment is for two years. One child, one tutor, one school year. Two lives forever changed. Oasis is open to all adults regardless of gender, race, creed, ethnicity, national origin or religion. Welcome to our ABQ Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring Program Library and Resource Room!

Recently, we completed our annual inventory of over 10,000 titles, games, activity packets, and puppets.

We invite you to visit our space and then join our volunteer team of reading mentors. We are promoting the joy of reading – one elementary school student at a time.

Vicki DeVigne was recognized with a KOB4 "Pay it 4ward" award a couple of weeks ago. The segment aired recently. You can watch this heart-warming piece here. Thanks to Vicki and all of our amazing volunteer tutors!

Albuquerque Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring hosted the annual Tutor Appreciation luncheon today. Vicki DeVigne, the program's director, welcomed 170 tutors. Lorna Wiggins, Albuquerque Oasis Board Chair, arranged for the luncheon to be held at the Albuquerque Country Club. Nusenda Credit Union underwrote the cost of the meal. Dan and Margaret Wolford provided flowers. Additional support for the program comes from the Sandia Foundation through the Albuquerque Community foundation, and Sandia National Labs.

A special thank you goes out to Deb Haaland who was our guest speaker. Deb spoke about her own educational journey and the importance of mentors and encouragers in our lives. We appreciate her making time to be at this event.

Finally, to make a great day even better, Bob Strong, a tutor, nominated Vicki DeVigne for a KOB4 "Pay It Forward" award of $400. Everyone in the room was surprised and overjoyed with gratitude when the presentation was made. Congratulations to Vicki who said that the money will go to buy more books for the Tutor Resource Library. Vicki is always thinking about the children that the tutoring program serves.
