PTA SPOTLIGHT
RIO RANCHO ELEMENTARY, RIO RANCHO, NM

For the first time this year, RRE PTA introduced "Tattoo Your Teacher!" We sold tattoos online and in person at school. The response from both staff and students was overwhelming and we've been asked to do it again!

Engaging your school principal in PTA membership growth can be fun and make a huge difference. Set a membership goal tied to a celebration such as โ€œDinner (or Breakfast) with Our Principal.โ€ These types of events can help the principal connect with the school community while your PTA grows its membership. Remember to invite everyone that attends to join PTA.

Leon Smith, the 2026 National Teacher of the Year, serves Pennsylvaniaโ€™s Haverford High School as an Advanced Placement (AP) United States history and AP African American studies teacher. Smith listens to his students. It was listening to them that became a catalyst for bringing the first-ever AP African American studies course to Haverford.

He is also deliberate in connecting students with community. As part of AP Advocacy Day, Smith takes students to the Pennsylvania State Capitol to interact with AP scholars from all over the state and meet with their local legislators to share the impact of AP courses on their lives.

Summer break is a time for kids to relax, explore and make memoriesโ€”but itโ€™s also important to keep their minds active so they donโ€™t lose momentum before the new school year begins. Weโ€™re pleased to announce this yearโ€™s summit, centered on the theme Stronger Together. This event will focus on aligning partners around shared progress, strengthening cross-team collaboration, and identifying clear, prioritized next steps. Through structured updates and peer learning, participants will build collective understanding of impact and lay the groundwork for coordinated, date-informed workplans.

Whether youโ€™re a parent, youth educator, healthcare professional, service provider, or community advocate, thereโ€™s a place for you within the 100% Community Initiative teams.

We know the challenges and how to fix them. All thatโ€™s lacking is the buy-in to make the health, safety, and education of 100% of Bernalilloโ€™s and all of New Mexicoโ€™s children and students the number one priority.

Programs Presented by Laurel Meister Schmuck, The Grant Plant, Inc.

In this imaginative, gamified session, participants will work side-by-side to explore fundraising strategies to grow out-of-school time programs, via brainstorming and storytelling activities, small group discussions, and a Shark Tank-style pitch competition using cards to represent different funder profiles.
