SENIOR ELEMENTARY WAX MUSEUM

Senior Elementary students chose a historical figure to research and act as that person during the Wax Museum’s grand opening. They researched their chosen person, wrote a short biography and the speech that they gave during museum hours. Students invited their families to attend this exciting classroom event.

SHARING OUR 2024-25 COMMUNITY REPORT

As we share the Escuela del Sol Montessori + Harwood Art Center 2024-25 Community Report, which is a reflection of the past year and a celebration of some of our highlights and accomplishments, it is clear that it was particularly meaningful for our organization. This report shares highlights of our progress – program growth, new initiatives, and the joyful learning that defines our classrooms, our programs, our galleries, and our community.

Together, we are building something truly special: a community rooted in Montessori principles, strengthened through the arts, and dedicated to lifelong learning.

The joy of expression through music is an important phase of life at Harwood. All the girls who wish to do so participate in choral groups, and take piano lessons from first grade through high school. This activity finds outlets in sharing what is learned many times during the year and is climaxed at Christmas and in the spring by concert programs and recitals. - La Joya yearbook, 1952, image from La Joya 1963

How proud we are of Harwood’s reputation!

“The past is ours to build upon...We would
be unworthy of that heritage if we did not plan even greater things for the future. We dream of a school in which … varieties of color and creed shall be differences that only bind us more closely together, in which younger and older shall work together with mutual respect and understanding.”
- Lois McKeown, Harwood Girls’ Superintendent, from 1952 La Joya yearbook

Sliding into the New Year like we can’t wait for what’s ahead!

During our in-service day, our guides began working on a primary sources project to bring local history into our classrooms. This is part of the Library of Congress grant we received in the fall. Over the semester, we will be working towards incorporating our learning into an exhibit during Harwood Art Center’s Encompass event this spring.
