Today, in Mr. Baum's upper school robotics class, students constructed LED circuits and programmed Arduino microcontrollers to make the LEDs dance. They coded the microcontrollers in C++, using lists to store dancing light patterns and using loops to control the sequence.

Today's lesson gave them valuable tools in both circuit design and programming that they'll use later this year in their robotic creations.

Robotics is an elective available to all upper schoolers. Robotics 1 starts from the very beginning, with no experience required, and by the end of the year, students have learned enough circuit design, programming, and CAD to design and build 3D printed robots. In the spring, students build battle bots they take to the Miner Mayhem contest at New Mexico Tech. Students who enjoy Robotics 1 can move into Advanced Robotics, where they build more advanced creations. All robotics classes happen in our fabrication lab, where we have ten 3D printers and filament in every color available for student use.
