🎺 CELEBRATING THE THREE AMIGOS 🎺
Daniel Perantoni | Winston Morris | Jim Self (RIP)
In the spirit of the great Harvey Phillips — the “Paganini of Tuba” — we came together this weekend to honor three giants who didn’t just play music… they built a world.
Winston Churchill said it best: “We make a living by what we do. We make a life by what we give.”
These Three Amigos gave everything. Careers. Legacy. Decades of pouring into students who became teachers, friends, and family. The bonds formed across these many years don’t expire — they compound. And this weekend proved it.
The theme was simple and timeless:
âś… Do your best
âś… Give back
âś… Leave things better than you found them
Congratulations to all the honorees and every soul who showed up — near, far, or in spirit 💚 To our extended family who couldn’t be there: we felt you.
Huge thanks to South Alabama University, Will Petersen, and Clayton Maddox — you made this beautiful. 👏
These Three Amigos got it done — and insisted their students do the same. So until the next celebration, let’s keep Aiming High, Breaking Records, and Getting It Done — in the same tradition as our teachers and mentors. 🎶
With all that we are and all that we have — thank you for showing the way ❤️
Love, RawTuba

There are moments in life that are simply too big for words — and yet, here we are, trying to find them.
Daniel Perantoni. Winston Morris. Jim Self.
Three legends in the music and tuba world. One friendship. A lifetime of music. These men didn’t just play the tuba — they TRANSFORMED it❤️ They fought for it, elevated it, and gave it a voice the world couldn’t ignore. Standing on the shoulders of the great Harvey Phillips — the “Paganini of the Tuba” — they carried that torch and burned even brighter, each in their own extraordinary way.
But beyond the stages, the recordings, the masterclasses, and the accolades — it’s the PEOPLE they changed that matter most. The students who walked into a lesson not knowing who they were, and walked out knowing exactly what they were meant to do. The doors that swung open because one of these gentlemen made a phone call, wrote a letter, or simply believed in someone when no one else did. That is the real legacy.
Rest easy, Jim Self. Your light didn’t go out — it lives in every student you ever touched. 🕊️
Daniel. Winston. Jim. Thank you for your generosity, your brilliance, and your humanity. Thank you for showing all of us that music is not just something you play — it’s something you GIVE.
This weekend, we don’t just celebrate careers. We celebrate lives changed, histories made, and a legacy that will echo through concert halls, practice rooms, and hearts for generations to come.
Now — we CELEBRATE! 🎶❤️
