UNM Chicana and Chicano Studies

Spring 2026 has brought a lot. We are excited to announce that three of our CCS PhD students have successfully defended their prospectuses! We want to congratulate Nick Rivas, Cynthia Garcia and Bilgenur Aydin! They have hit a major milestone and will now be gearing up for their research and writing. Send them some cafecito has they will be buried in books and writing their hearts out! Congratulations!

Thank you UNM-Valencia Campus campus for hosting us! We can’t wait to stop by again!

We want to thank all the community members of New Mexico and those that came to visit from out of town. We are happy to be with our Communidad for our 3rd Annual Gran Baile. We hope to see all of you and more next year! The Dwayn Ortega Band brought many of our friends and family out on the dance floor and we are excited to continue to keep alive the traditional New Mexico Baile. Goodnight.

Good afternoon CCS Communidad, it is that time of year again!

The Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies would like to invite you to our 3rd Annual Gran Baile sponsored by Arte por Vida!

This event will take place on Friday, April 24th, 2026, from 5-10pm at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. We are excited to host the backyard Baile at NHCC again this year, this helps us serve our communities in preservation of New Mexico, arts, culture and heritage.

Please join us in welcoming the Dwayn Ortega Band and to engage in plática with community!
