ECHO in Applied Behavior Analysis

ECHO in Applied Behavior Analysis The mission of ECHO Autism ® in Applied Behavior Analysis is to improve the standards of ABA treatment in rural and underserved communities.

ECHO ® (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) clinics combine mentoring and patient case presentations to create a virtual learning network through hub-and-spoke knowledge-sharing networks. TeleECHO clinics are conducted using basic, widely available teleconferencing technology, allowing clinicians to join from anywhere. During ECHO clinics, BCBAs from multiple sites present patient cases,

discuss new developments relating to their patients, and determine treatment. The central hub is comprised of specialists, who serve as mentors and colleagues, sharing their knowledge and expertise with Board Certified Behavior Analysts. Essentially, ECHO® creates ongoing learning communities where BCBAs receive support and on-going professional development opportunities to improve the quality of care they provide to children with ASD. ECHO Model is an innovative system that expands professionals’ knowledge and increased confidence in treating children with ASD through the following key components:

Utilize technology to leverage scarce behavioral health resources
Didactic trainings on best practice ABA Treatment
Case Presentations
Outcome measurement

Big news for Project ECHO, Providers and Health Care Recipients

11/28/2016

Telemedicine bill appears on Senate docket:

The Senate is set to vote on the ECHO Act (S. 2873) on Nov. 28, potentially the first stand-alone telemedicine bill to receive a vote on the Senate floor. The bill from Sens. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) requests that the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) study how telemedicine enables distance learning of medical providers and report back to Congress on how it can be expanded. The updated bill no longer requires a Government Accountability Office study and revises definitions and specifics of the HHS study. The legislation, introduced this spring, would expand the University of New Mexico's Project ECHO, which employs telemedicine to train rural providers to manage complex diseases. A similar bill has been presented in the House by Reps. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) and Doris Matsui (D-Calif.), but has not yet been voted on.
